Can you use a rice cooker to cook anything else besides rice?!

Question:

Can you use a rice cooker to cook anything else besides rice?

Answers: Of course! We use it to make soups, porridges, rice dishes and so on. If if has a steaming tray, then you can steam veggies, egg and fish (though I do not like fish steamed in this way. sure!!jus about anything!other than rice ,you can make vegetables. And you will not believe how fast it cooks! Also ,since you would hardly require the use of oil,it is much healthier.Being an Indian,i can tell you that a cooker is an intergral part of the Indian cooking. Yup, I do the same as Stanley.
I actually use it like a crock pot sometimes, My rice coker has a high and low, rice and soup setting.
I put beans in it on low while I am at work.
You can also dump lentils and vegetables in it and let it cook for about an hour.

I have the steamer tray, and one of my favorite (and easy) things to do is put brown rice on the bottom, with some carrot and/or sweet potato slices in the steamer tray. For the last 10 minutes of cooking I add a big chunk of salmon with some shreaded ginger to the steamer tray. The whole dinner is ready in about 45 minutes.

I also use my rice cooker to make red beans and sweet red bean soups. Some are deisgned only for rice while others are steamers as well to cook veggies and such. That's the type I have, but I've never used it for that. Makes great rice though. It's a great vegetable steamer.
