Why is marijuana getting such a bad rap?
I am not going to voice my opinion b/c i am sick of rudeness lately but why are so many people bashing it recently when alcohol & tobacco should be the focus since IT kills far more ppl.
Then people are SO worried about how it affects kids & I agree they sure as hell shouldn't use it either. However of all kids are going to find a way to do it. Second, why can't consenting adults live in peace. Forgive me but is it NOT a dbl standard when it comes down to it? Additional Details

It doesn't cause bipolar depresssion which ISN'T an illness. There's bi polar disorder and there's depression. It only exacerbates pre exisiting conditions & it doesn't make people stupid. Most don't need any help from a natural plant to be stupid. I could list all the famous sucessful people who use it but I have a day job.

While I have not spent as much time as others arguing about this subject, I believe the general consensus is that the government makes far too much money charging "criminals" than they would if they should decide to regulate and therefor tax marijuana. Why should they legalize and lose money when they need it most when there is such an abundance of people to arrest and charge, therefor taking far more money than they might from merely regulating and taxing alone? Calculate a rough estimate of court costs, vehicle impound fees, and vehicle auction profit the government gets from arresting someone for illegally processing the material, as opposed to the few cents they may have earned had they taxed that same amount of marijuana legally.

If you were to research way way way back, especially in American (by that I mean indiginous American) culture, you would find that people have been utilizing cannabis as a medicinal tool for many centuries. All and more of the uses people argue for the use of cannabis today have been used for many generations. Today, pharmaceutical companies control most of our remedies/ treatments, but cannot put a patent on a plant. THese same corporations spend massive amounts of money lobbying our lawmakers, who are the the ones who refuse to reverse an outdated law passed for unproven/unjust reasons. Everyone there wants to be re-elected. Do the math. Who really gets paid for the prohibiton of marijuana? Who really suffers?
Also you might consider the fact that marijuana is considered a "gateway" drug because it is prohibited. People are forced behind closed doors where the other controlled substances exist. If it were regulated such as cigarettes or alcohol, then marijuana users wouldn't necesarily be exposed to these other substanes which are controlled for good reason. Bottom line is, they make more money prosecuting their own citizens than they would taxing them.
Prohibition is a war on our own citizens and is therefor unconstitutional.

my brother was a heavy user of cannabis and now suffers from bi polar depression
the doctors reckon , like a lot of people he was susceptible to depression ,but it was the heavy cannabis use that was the catalyst to bring it on
i dont judge either way , just giving you some facts
but i beleive people should know the dangers , then make a choice as they do with alcohol and tobacco
for to long cannabis has been touted as a " harmless " drug when it is nothing of the sort

Ian Comparing weed to alcohol/tobacco is a tactic the legalize weed movement always love to use, but it is completely off base. They are two separate issues, and trying to lump them in together is simply a way to smokescreen the real issues weed causes.
You will not find one REPUTABLE medical organization that will back the legalize weed movement, because it does not have the supposed medical effects people want to claim it does.
In the long term, every medical professional will tell you it is a complete gateway drug which will lead to more and more drug use for harder drugs (heroin, crack, cocaine). It causes loss of brain function, sterility, a breakdown of human cells in the body, and to many other numerous medical issues to name. It's a 'Big Brother' kinda thang. How does the Government regulate and control something that pretty much anyone, anywhere can grow in their own backyard?
Actually, as late as 1916, the Medical Establishment recommended a tea made from cannabis leaves as a cure for colic in infants.
Doug I used to smoke pot but now I smoke cigarettes and drink all the time. When I smoked pot I seemed a lot dumber and just acted like a dumbass on the otherhand THC actually increases brain cell regineration after you sobre up making you have more brain cells than before but still. Now that I drink and smoke cigs constantly I have more friends get laid more lost some weight and am going to die in the next ten years.
I didnt have that problem with pot but of course everything affects everyone else differently but everyone told me I did, why? well society has brought us up on the idea that pot is evil just like communisim. Its taught in school posted on the street and shoved down your throat on TV Is pot really evil? no Its not that great either it doesnt make you come up with great ideas or anything like that acid does (designer of the double helix was on LSD at the time) but that stufff will seriously mess you up In the end the only danger in pot is if its laced to check if your sh*t is laced do the following take a small leaf out of the bagg put lighter to it if it crackles it has **** on it. Dont buy pre rolled either There is a bit of history as to why maijuana gets such bad publicity. It is because around the early 1900's hemp was being used in many different forms from the manufacturing of cloth, oils, and substituting it in place of steel and was a threat to the " Plastic Industry". Plastic was being introduced into what we know today as a common household material used in many different forms and it is not a renewable source. Whereas hemp can be grown over and over again and is a known as a renewable source of a product.
To get the hemp industry out of the way and make it a product that is not acceptable to society. The Duponts had connections in the White House to make it an illeagle product because if it is smoked it will cause hallucinations and that is where the Duponts succeeded in quashing a renewable product that was a threat to their plastic product.
Hemp was even being used in the manufacture of fenders and car parts in the early manufacturing of Ford Cars.
To this day hemp is being blacklisted by the big money people and terming it a threat to our society as a dangerous drug.
I have yet to read or hear of someone getting "toked up" on marijuana and becoming violent and causing bodily harm to anyone in the form of beating up on ones spouce, children, and even causing a murder. How many times have you heard of someone getting drunk on "leagal alocohol" and doing violent acts such a previously mentioned.
Now this is basically why we are being fed this crap about marijuana being dangerous and unacceptable in todays society.
I say it should be leagalized, taxed and controlled. bibsian= weed does not cause bipolar it is an inherited chemical imbalance, it is possible your brother was self medicating. Or perhaps he had the disposition and it only came through after he quit weed. It really ticks me off that people imply that people with chemical imbalances brought it on themselves somehow and to perpetuate this myth is ignorant. I really don't see how it is more harmful than alcohol and it has better effects than most of my meds w/o the side effects. I wish it were legal or I'd still be smokin I have Bi-Polar and use it under the Doctor's RX. A toke or two in the evening help me to sleep for a couple or so hours. I agree with the rudeness not in my towns folks but from answers here. Lighten up on folks who need it for chemical disorders, pain or maybe just enjoy the high. it does kill good brain cells and it impairs your ability in working and driving even in some places socializing and it can kill you if your driving when stoned or when or crosing the road when stoned in some cases plus you smell everything up a little worse then smoking cigerettes it plainly makes you not think right.
