What are some natral ways I can get to sleep?


I needed to get off the prescription medications I was takeing to sleep ( abian and lunsta) but still need some help sleeping
I cant take melatonin eather

I work untill 1am on my feet most days so lack of exersise is not realy an issue Im runing around lifting prtty much non stop for eight hours If you can, try to schedule your work so that you can be at home at a decent hour. If you're constantly coming home late into the night, it may be a few a hours before you can actually fall asleep because of your body still being in "work mode."

You've probably heard these before, but they're really worth doing. They can be essential to developing a nightly routine that will tell your body that it's time to hit the hay.


Cut out your caffiene.

Have a light, healthy snack before bed if you're hungry, but avoid a heavy meal. It sucks to be hungry if you're trying to sleep, but you'll want to be able to eat in the morning.

Set up a routine to make yourself get up and go to bed at a similar time each day.

Turn off visual/auditory stimulation (tv, computer, radio, etc) at least 30 minutes before bed.

Exercise earlier in the evening (if you're of that type).

Drink a warm glass of milk

Have a glass of Chamolie ("Sleepy Time") tea

Do a nightly *laydown* (see below)

Take a warm bath. Although I can't stand lavendar, you might find it helpful to help relax.

Read a book in bed

Speaking of beds
Bed/Pillows...should be well supportive for your body. You don't want it to be too soft or firm.
--If your pillows aren't supportive, replace them. Same goes for the matress. If you're prone to back and shoulder problems, try sleeping with a pillow between your knees and arms. In terms of pillow arrangement, you'll have to experiment on your own. I've found using a standard filled pillow over an extra firm pillow works well for me.


Laydown position:
Take a spot on the floor where you can lie on your back,but not risk bumping into anything. The purpose of this is to help relax your mind, focus on your breathing, and to release excess tension in your body.

If the floor is too hard, you may want to lay on a towl or blanket for cushioning. You'll also want a few paperback books or small pillow to help support your head. You don't want your head tilting backwards, nor do you want it tilting towards your chest.

1). Roll yourself onto your back, so that your head is on the books or pillow.

2). Bend your knees and place feet flat on the ground, as close as you comfortably can towards your behind.

3). Gently place your hands on your upper ribs, fingers gently extending, upper arms/elbows gently resting on the floor.

4). Close your eyes (and have the lights off in the room).

5). Notice your breathing and overall feeling of your body. This is an EXCELLENT opportunity for you to notice where in your body you might be holding onto tension, causing you to have trouble with falling asleep. Body parts to THINK about (not actually doing):

Hands: resting on the ribs, fingers gently reaching out across to the other set of fingers on the opposite hand

Head: Floating at the very top of the spine, allowing for complete freedom of movement (tip of the spine is actually more between your ears).

Neck: Free

Feet: Legnthening and widening on the carpet

Knees: Foating up towards the ceiling...takes pressure off of the hips and ankles as well

Back, legnthing and widening along the carpet..maybe feeling as if you're "molding into" the floor.

Breathing: just noticing that it's there...in and out, in and out, at your own pace

Brain: Gently telling your brain to wind down. Say no to negative or "must do" type of thoughts. If it starts to wonder, bring yourself back into thinking about your breathing. Close your eyes and just enjoy the resting experience.

Time needed: 10-15 minutes. Cost: Not a dang thing. If you can put this into your nightly routine, your body and mind will GREATLY thank you for it.
