Does hypnosis therapy really work for quitting smoking or losing weight?!

Question:

Does hypnosis therapy really work for quitting smoking or losing weight?

Would it work for 'tic-like' behaviors such as constant, tuneless humming, or chewing ice?

Answers: Hypnosis is a method used to make a person more likely to accept a suggestion. When it is used to try to control issues like weightloss or smoking, a large factor in the success of the treatment is related to the patient's desire to accept the suggestion. If the patient is resistent to the suggestion, it is unlikely that hypnosis will have any effect.

Having said that, a skilled practitioner, working over a long period of time can utilize a well designed series of suggestions that will make the treatments much more successful. In other words, if the therapist knows that the patient will reject a suggestion to quit smoking, the therapist must find other suggestions that the patient is more likely to accept. By building the patients personal relationship with the treatment over a period of time, the patients confidence in the treatment will build, and they will become more likely to accept suggestions that they may have originally resisted.

The key is setting the patient expectations correctly, carefully wording the suggestions, and patience in the treatment.

And yes, it would also work for tic-like behaviours. In fact, it would be much easier to control 'tics' than it would be to control behaviours like smoking and over-eating. The trick is finding a therapist who understands the art of using hypnosis as a treatment. Do I look thin to you?

Hypnosis can help some people break bad habits, but most of the success isn't from post-hypnotic suggestion but from their identification of the undesirable behavior and their own will power to stop doing it. No if it did everyone would be doing it. The biggest help in loosing weight or quitting smoking is a life change...hit the gym, eat smarter (proportions is the key), and for smoking well i did it cold turkey with help from friends using a "wager" game. i will say this about hypnosis...the us military wont let you get a certain clearance if you have been hypnotized in the past...even if it was for fun at an amusement park...so who knows it could work...though if you have ever seen "Rob & Big" on MTv then you know that it clearly just puts you to sleep...good nap...lmao...hope this helps...oh and remember it takes 21 days to start a habbit...or loose one...GOOD LUCK! For smoking, hypnosis does NOT work. If you are trying to quit smoking, it is a neural addiction, therefore your body depends on it and hypnosis will not work since it has no effect on your nervous system. For food addiction, hypnosis won't work either because hypnotism is just a form of suggestion. For both smoking and food addiction, work out because it produces endorphins, a natural high, which can replace your temptation
