Acupuncture for low back pain will it work ?!

Question:

Acupuncture for low back pain will it work ?

Answers: Yes, if you know of a good practitioner, so its always good to find one by recommendation - your GP may know of someone within the Trust. (Don't be afraid to ask long long they trained and how long they have been doing acupuncture - a weekend course do not cut it!)

Depending on the type of low back pain (there is a different type of system for diagnosing the cause of the pain) acupuncture and be done with various methods - straightforward needling, electo-acupuncture, or warming the needle with 'moxa'.

It usually takes a few treatments, so bear with it. Its not like drugs where they can have an instantaneous effect.

Needles will be placed locally (where the pain is) and can also be distal - hands and head - even though the pain is in your low back, they are all connected.

Initially 4-6 sessions, once a week (sometimes more frequently, depending on your pain). You may need 'top-up sessions' after that where you can have one-off treatments whenever you feel the 'twinge'. These should be less frequent as time goes on.

You may also find you have postive side-effects - sleeping better, better bowel movements, more energy. All things you you can use to help monitor the effectiveness of the treatment you get.

Hope this helps. it can't hurt...then again I heard it does. I had a friend that had it she said it worked. I think it's just a band aid to a real problem My husband had this done through a physio on the NHS and it helped him quite a lot, now he goes to a Chinese herbalist who gives him acupuncture once a week and his back is lots better than it has been. acupuncture cured a painful arm for me some years ago with no return it does help, but make sure it is a Chinese person doing it, and that it's not in a training facility. It can help, but it did not help for me. I tried everything for severe back pain and herniated discs....I had great hopes for acupuncture as well as other aspects of Chinese medicine. Sadly, my efforts, and those of my acupuncturist were for nothing. I like to think it was uneffective for me because my pain was caused by something other than just a simple lack of chi flow (and instead was caused by intense physicall pressure of the disintegrated disc parts pressing up agians nerve roots as well as a bone chip that was pressing into and almost cutting the nerve root).

I guess what I am saying is: Don't give up on conservative/western treatments but give acupuncture a try: there have been definite positive results for many people, but if it doesn't seem to be working for you, don't hesitate to move on.

And if it doesn't work, don't blame acupuncture, it could be that your current ailment just doesn't respond to this treatment, but maybe in the future, acupuncture could be the exact prescription for what ails you. Tha main factor that will determine whether or not acupuncture will work for a particular case of back pain is the particular cause of the back pain. ... If the cause is a result of structural damage to the spine, ie; spinal disc herniation or deterioration or damage to spinal vertebra etc. .. then acupunncture will most likely not provide results.

If however the back pain is the result of muscle pain resulting from stress or internal energetic imbalance etc. ... then the acupuncture (in the hands of an experienced professional), should prove very helpful.

There are many very good western trained acupuncturists out there. You do not have to go to a "Chinese" practitioner to recieve excellent treatment. I had upper and low back pain and used all kinds of other methods, including medication, it wasnt till I went holistic and used an acupunturist till I got some real relief, I would try it if I were you ..on this page im leaving you at the botton is a
finder you type in your zip code itll find an acupunturist near you.
