Making an herbal tincture?!
Question:
Making an herbal tincture?
curious of anyone uses a faster method when making herbal tinctures than I.
I generally let the herbs sit in vodka for 6 weeks. I have a family member who I would love to help and wonder if pressing or anything would shorten the time to make a tincture.
It would be fantastic if I could offer a tincture next week
Thank you!
Answers: I think in general it takes 3-6 weeks to make a tincture but why not just mix the herb for your family member and let them drink it as a tea? Just steep in boiling water for up to 10 minutes and they'll be able to use it now. Hope this helps :-)
Here's a note from a blog about herbs, talking about making an herbal infusion (the link is below):
To make an herbal infusion:
That said, water herbal infusions (a fancy name for tea) are great too; but they don't have a long shelf life. They aren't nearly as potent but to make a strong infusion for cosmetic/medicine uses, bring the water to a boil, take the water off the stove, add the herbs, make sure your pot is capped tightly (to make sure no essential oils escape; or you could use a jar), and infuse for 20 minutes to an hour, then strain. One book that I have suggests 1 to 8 hours. Roots and berries and heavier materials need to be simmered for at least 20 minutes and then infused for at least an hour. Source(s):
