Answers: Pediatricians and doctors do NOT practice biological nutrition. So, you ask nutritionists and people who study this complex form of science called biological nutrition.. In fact, I've spoken to many physicians who tell me that they have to go right back to school to learn how cells work with different componants of nutrition if they want to expand their knowledge because medical school only offers one hour of nutrition and its optional.

Fatty acids are what make up the brain around the nerves. Fatty acids take the bad fat by the hand and lead it out of the body. Fatty acids are found in fresh virgin pressed olive oil, plentiful in flax seeds, nuts, avocados etc... They are "food" and you cannot overdose on food!

Its the hydrogenated oils that cause heart disease. There is a heart transplant specialist who has been doing his job for 45 years and heart disease was not present in children's doner hearts at one time. Now, the beginning stages of heart disease are found in 4 year olds! Because we are feeding our kids hydrogenated man made oils that stiffen artery walls and cause heart disease.

My friend does voluntary autopsies at the Los Angeles Coroner's office. 6 year olds, she says, have the beginning stages of heart disease. Athletic bodies have advanced stages of heart disease in their 20's and 30's.

Read your labels. Processed foods and wesson oils etc are all hydrogenated and cause major harm to your cellular integrity. They stiffen cell walls, which are made out of "fatty acids" and keep free radicals from snuffing out cancer before it begins or keep cells from prematurely aging (rusting from free radical damage from toxins in our atmosphere).

So, if our cell walls are made out of fatty acids, mainly Omega 3's are important because we get plenty of Omega 6... Then, it stands to reason that you feed your cells what they are made of for cellular restoration and cellular integrity. Thus, your child is a cell making machine making better copies of ones self as they grow up.

Good eating habits are easier to address at younger ages. Don't ask people on here this question. They don't know your child or his health status. You need to contact the child's pediatrician. You never know, so why take the chance? Although I'm no longer involved in the business, I used to be Director of Sales and Marketing of a company that sold fish oil to the food industry.

Omega 3s are great for people of all ages. There are two components. EPA and DHA. One tends to be better for children, etc. the other tends to be better for adults.

Brain, eye, and heart functions are all reasons to take omega 3s.

There have been a huge amount of studies done with next to zero negative effects.

Give them to your 6 year old, but YOU should be taking them also. The biggest distinction for Fish Oil for a child isn't if they should take it, it's how MUCH they should take.

Technically, it's just like eating a few extra fish sticks (although MUCH more nutritious).... but it's important to ask a pediatrician how much would be safe for your child.

Yes, Fish Oil is very good for cardiovascular health, skin health, and moreso brain health. I have taken them since shortly after I started working here, and I've noticed a significant improvement in my brain health and mental capacity. Aside from myself, we have thousands (probably tens of thousands) of customers that order fish oil on a regular basis and get quite a lot of benefits from it.

Fish Oil is something that I believe everyone (who's not allergic to fish) should take because of the numerous benefits... just make sure you get it from a company with good quality, as there will be no harmful metals in it that way. Omega 3 pills are generally safe for children to take. Since I do not know the strenght of the pills that you are using I cannot say with certianty that the dosage is correct. However, they make a lot of supplements for children with omega 3 oils and fish oils in them. I would reccommend that you go to your local healthfood store and choose from the selection of childrens supplements to make sure that your child receives the appropriate amount of omega 3's.

As far as a pediatrician is concerned, most of the pediatricians do not know anything about natural medicine. Any pediatrician I had just knodded their head like they knew what I was talking about. Use your instincts as a mother, arm yourself with knowledge before giving your child any supplements, and consult a homeopathic or naturopathic doctor if you are in question of your childs health as far as natural remedies is concerned. I believe so, and all the other benefits!!! Me and my 5 yr old daughter take, not the pills but hemp seed oil every morning. Hemp seed oil in itself contains the ideal 3:1 ratio of Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids. However, drinking oil isn't the great feeling, so you can also mix it into smoothie or on salad, toasts etc...If you choose to take the pill, I think you should look into what's really in the pill and make sure to follow the dosage.
