Insurance for Practicing Reiki?!

Question:

Insurance for Practicing Reiki?

Is it necessary of recommended to take out an Insurance policy to practice Reiki in Canada? Reiki being a passive, non-intrusive holistic healing technique rediscovered by Dr. Usui (a Japanese monk) doesn't harm anyone.

Answers: Insurance is necessary if you are practicing in a clinic or other professional building.

While Reiki is non-invasive and in itself does not pose any vulnerablity, there are other things that can happen. For example, some one could (however unlikely) simply fall off the massage table and hurt themselves. The table itself could break due to an unforeseen stress fracture in the design. The client could have "claim" that you touched them inappropriately. Etc. So there are lots of reasons to carry insurance.

I have been told that a lot of practitioners in Ontario use State Farm, so that is one option for you.

You could also speak with your home/car insurance company and see if they also cover this sort of thing. That would allow you to bundle your policies. Or consult with the Canadian Reiki Association to advice you of insurance companies willing to cover practioners for Reiki in your area.

Hope that helps.
:) anytime you are touching another human being problems can arise-if you are ever sued for any reason what so ever the insurance will protect you I would recommend it It is not required in the US but I carry 7 million dollars worth of personal liability in my practice. If I get sued for anything I do here in my practice , I'm covered.
Your professional association will be able to help you with this decision. I agree with the other posts. While you are not physically touching them, you are working on them. All it takes is one person to claim you made them worse or caused some other ailment. That's all. Better safe than sorry in this situation. :) if u r reiki practitioner, above all do a reiki on ur self for not getting sued. my mother practices reiki and she has acheived master or something. but she never charges anyone.
but i keep on calling her to do reiki on me for even reaching on time for an interview. doing good in interview. for my baby sleeping well and playing well etc.

so do a reiki on urself for not getting sued. believe me it works. im a massage therapist in the united states so i carry insurance anyway. however even if i just practiced reiki i would carry insurance. unfortunately people will sue for any reason.
