The patient is diagnosed as acute pancreatitis.so,can anyone explain the x-ray results? I'm more concerned with what they do see: dilated loops of bowel, ileus and edema of the bowel wall. Does this person have a blockage? Ileus is when the bowels aren't moving. edema in the wall is swelling in the wall. The no obvious radio-opaque shadows means they can't see a mass that could be causing what I think is a blockage. The fact that there's no free air means that the bowel hasn't burst and let it's air out into the abdominal cavity (when bowels are blocked, they can sometimes burst). It would be inappropriate for anyone to interpret these findings without knowing the full medical history of the patient and the reason the x-ray was ordered in the first place.

Best to ask the doctor. It shows that you large bowel is dilated that your have some edema aka swelling of the bowel wall and that there were no shadows meaning they didn't see any tumors or spots of something in your bowel. There is no moving air seen in your intraperitoneal area. The dilated large bowel part means that you could have a blockage of the bowel. An ileus is a blockage of the bowel. The raido-opaque part means that they did not see any obvious masses. The no free intaperitoneal air part means that you do not have a puncture of the bowel. What are they doing for you? Hope you get well soon.
