I wanted to add that I am also part of his staff at his real esate company. A year ago we were looking for a home to rent to own since we had no credit. This house was suppose to be rent to own but he stated he had to put us in a lease for a year. But I also just recently found out the only reason he can not sell it to me is because he does not own it. I have all the documentation as well as pictures of the house that I have showed him. I see him putting new carpet and paint in all his other rental property but he cant help us. I have an appointment with my childrens doctor to get them tested for mold they can draw blood to find out. They said with us living in it for a year that they needed to be tested. When I ask to talk to him about it he always replies with well we can talk about this later. I work for him and I rent a house from him that was suppose to be rent to own. I would fix the problems myself if that were the case but it is not. Please help!!

I think the answers you've received are perfect, however, I doubt you will be willing to follow through until you realize that working for him doesn't obligate you to be weak about making a definite decision.

Really think about it this way, you allowed him to put you and your family in danger by taking advantage of your good will.

I know you rely on his money... But, its really not his money, you work for it, the staff works for it, and he took advantage of you, so the bottom line... Remember this quote:

"In order for things to change; you have to change!" Source(s):
Why am I being harsh? Because, you didn't handle it like a business transaction. You have nothing in writing as per your agreement. No proof! ASk him in writing; then call the county health department Contact your county health department ASAP and they will handle it. For now get out of the house until the mold problem is fixed as mold is toxic. Call a lawyer to see if you can stay in a motel and charge the landlord until it is fixed. You CANNOT stay in a house with mold as this is dangerous. Please remember that MOLD can cause bad health and therefore is a violation to many Health Codes.
You can contact your county health department if you choose. Your landlord may get angry, but its your health that you must be concerned with.
You can get respiratory problems from mold. Well if you have children move now.The mold will harm you and possible kill you.Don't pay the next months rent and move ,take pictures of the mold and sewage, write done on a calender how many times you have called ,send a certified letter about the mold etc.Or you can take him to court. call the heath department.landlords love them ha.I am a landlord I know If you have not documented this problem, you have very little to stand on as far as it being an issue you have been trying to get the landlord to resolve.

Why have you lived in this cesspool for so long? By paying to live here you have shown tolerance and acceptance of the conditions. I can only imagine it is for financial reasons. Let public health and public housing know about this. I am sure public health will shut the landlord down, and that public housing will assist you in finding an appropriate and affordable place to live.

All the health warnings about mold are true. And raw sewage is deadly. I would refuse to pay the rent! Raw sewage? Sounds like this landlord is a slum lord. Keep the money in escrow, and do not spend it because once (and if) the problem is resolved you might be required to pay the rent. If he attempts to evicted you, you'll have your day in court. Bring pictures, because proof is your burden. And if what your saying is true, I don't think he would really want to go to court and air his dirty laundry and he just might fix it. If he doesn't, there is a possiblity u might have to pay you damages. i had the same problem i called the board of health and they came out wrote and took pics and then gave the landlord 1 week to fix it and he did he had no choice or it would have been condemed....
