Will crushing vicodin pills lose its potency?
Will crushing vicodin pills and drinking it with juice lose the potency of it? I have been taking them for awhile for my extreme headaches from my eye surgerys, anyways the docter told me it was fine to crush them because im a baby when it comes to taking pills, some people tell me it loses its potency if you crush them, is that true? maybe thats why they dont last long?
Answers: Crushing standard Hydrocodone tablets will not cause a loss of potency. If it is easier for you to ingest the tablets when they are crushed or grinded, then it can be done. Only difference between taking the tablets via oral and ingesting the tablets in crushed form is that your body will absorb the medication (Hydrocodone and Acetominophen) faster in crushed form. Many tablets contain a preservative in the outer layer that breaks down evenly when digested before being absorbed.
Be careful not to take any more then is prescribed, either crushed or in tablet form. Hydrocodone is a narcotic and can cause addiction, dependency and tolerance very quickly.

Minor in Pharmacology no it doesn't, as long as you get all of the crushed bits into the glass it's exactly the same I don't believe it will lose potency as you are not changing it chemically nor are you reducing the amount of the medication. It may cause you to have a quicker reaction to it as you are grinding up the coating on the pill. This could be the reason for it not lasting long also. You should ask your pharmacist No, won't lose it's potency but the more you become accustomed to it the more tablets you'll have to take to get the same effect. i cant see how it would, as long as you take all of the crushed pieces then why would it???
have fun! NO! A pill is just a mechanically shaped powder. Crushing it returns it to its natural form. Remember the old term "take a powder"? Old pharmacies dispensed medications in that form because of tha lack of the technology (or availability) of pill making machines. I have used one of the older ones when in high school at a science pre med conference.
They lose their effectiveness because you build up a tolerance to them. One thing you might try is alternating pain medications.
I take Vicodin but I have heard Ultram is good and supposedly legally purchased from cheaper pharmacies in Canada. Vicodin is a schedule II drug and cannot be ordered from outside of the US either by internet or mail. yes.
