I'm so sorry for your loss! My prayers are with you and your mother... I'm allergic to antibiotics, so I can't use any antibiotic for the eye infections that I'm prone to. The best they have been able to give me is just the Rx that takes the red out. But that doesn't get rid of the infection. So what I tried one time, and it worked miracles, was Colloidal Silver. I use in on everything! It was amazing for cuts that I get, since I don't heal very well. I had an ear infection, and it worked great for that. Also for burning, itching rashes. So that is where I got the idea to put a few drops in my eyes when I had conjuctivitis. It did burn for a few seconds, but then it was gone just that fast. l was totally amazed that in a few hours the infection, the itching, the burning from the infection, was gone. It comes in a dark blue bottle with an eye dropper. It's an amazing product. I've included an article that you might find interesting. This sure worked wonders for me, so I hope this helps your Mom too.
My condolences, there are some over the counter remedies available but if the stuff from the doctor doesn't work I would doubt it's conjunctivitis. an old time eye treatment that my provide some relief would be to place a warm tea bag over her eye allowing the tea to enter the eye - it doesn't hurt - the tannic acid in the tea will help to shrink the swollen blood vessels.
No go back and see the Doctor.
When my kids were little, we lived 45 minutes away from our Pediatrician, so whenever they got conjunctivitis, he always had us try this remedy before making what could be an unnecessary trip. Here's what you do. Mix a little Johnson's Baby Shampoo (because it doesn't sting, cause tears, etc) and some lukewarm water in a small bowl. Using a clean cotton ball for each application, wipe the closed eye(s) with a cotton ball soaked in the mixture, 3 times on each infected eye, 3 times a day, for 3 days (usually takes less than 3 days). It always worked for my kids, and has since worked for several of my adult friends as well. (This method also works on pets.) Hope this helps.
Try Tai Chi. tai chi is an ancient Chinese system of slowly flowing movements and shifts of balance that strengthens the legs while conditioning the tendons and ligaments of the ankles, knees, and hips, increasing their range of motion and making them more resilient, less prone to injury. The constant weight shifts train balance and body awareness, leading to confident ease of movement within the form and in everyday life. Tai Chi is a physical exercise that focuses the mind, while conditioning the body. Practicing twenty minutes a day dissipates stress and reduces stress-related debilities, increases stamina, and strengthens the body and will.
Western Science recognizes the following benefits of practicing Tai Chi: increased oxygen uptake and utilization (more efficient breathing), reduced blood pressure, slower declines in cardiovascular power, increased bone density, increased strength and range of motion of joints, greater leg strength, knee strength, and flexibility, reduced levels of stress hormones during and after practice, improved immune function, and heightened mood states.
