before I got pregers and it didn't work that well. I smoked less but was't able to quit. I smoke no more than 25-35 cigs a week and I say per week because I don't smoke everyday.

Also, does anyone one know the effects of smoking a few cigs a week while pregers? I have tried to find studies out of curiosity, not because I have any intention to smoke while pregers.

Please give me all you got!

Thanks!!!

i hate to burst your bubble but you will have this urge for the rest of your life whenever i feel the urge i try to keep something in my hands and stay busy its not easy but every time you think about smoking think about the health of your baby and your urge will subside

Smoking can stop blood flow to the baby and even collapse it's lungs and if you that doesnt happen your baby could end up with severe asthma. Try seeing a doctor to help stop smoking if that information isnt enough to make you never want to smoke again.

low birthweight, and breathing problems. you should eat sugar-free candy, and carrot sticks in water to help the habit of putting ur hand to ur mouth.

I quit cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant, too.

Folic Acid prevents birth defects and smoking destroys folic acid.

PS.. Sugar free? See http://www.dorway.com it is a neurotoxin you are putting in your baby. No aspartame or splenda.

Quit smoking? Here is another motivator http://whyquit.com/

effects of smoking in pregnancy---higher risk of preterm labor, preeclampsia, your fetus may lose quite a number of IQ points, and even if born "normally", may have a higher risk of sudden death

The Effect of Maternal Smoking and Drinking During Pregnancy Upon (3)H-Nicotine Receptor Brainstem Binding in Infants Dying of the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome: Initial Observations in a High Risk Population.Duncan JR, Randall LL, Belliveau RA, Trachtenberg FL, Randall B, Habbe D, Mandell F, Welty TK, Iyasu S, Kinney HC.
Department of Pathology, Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

The high rate of the sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in American Indians in the Northern Plains (3.5/1000) may reflect the high incidence of cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption during pregnancy. Nicotine, a neurotoxic component of cigarettes, and alcohol adversely affect nicotinic receptor binding and subsequent cholinergic development in animals. We measured (3)H-nicotine receptor binding in 16 brainstem nuclei in American Indian SIDS (n = 27) and controls (n = 6). In five nuclei related to cardiorespiratory control, (3)H-nicotinic binding decreased with increasing number of drinks (P < 0.03). There were no differences in binding in SIDS compared with controls, except upon stratification of prenatal exposures. In three mesopontine nuclei critical for arousal there were reductions (P < 0.04) in binding in controls exposed to cigarette smoke compared with controls without exposure; there was no difference between SIDS cases with or without exposure. This study suggests that maternal smoking and alcohol affects (3)H-nicotinic binding in the infant brainstem irrespective of the cause of death. It also suggests that SIDS cases are unable to respond to maternal smoking with the "normal" reduction seen in controls. Future studies are needed to establish the role of adverse prenatal exposures in altered brainstem neurochemistry in SIDS

I'm so proud of you for being able to quit. My roommate was in the same situation as you 4 years ago. But the moment she learned she was pregnant, she went cold turkey. No drugs, no nicotine patches. She's been smoke-free since... You now what she named her baby? Hope : ) Good luck

Everyone has given you reasons why to quit, and what might happen with the baby if you don't, but no one has given you any help in ridding yourself of the cravings. The only thing that I have ever found to work for me was hypnotism. You might consider this as an option. There are a lot of places that do hypnotism, and there are also traveling hypnotists that might visit a Holiday Inn or someplace equivalent in your area. I went to the traveling one, and it worked wonders!

just eat a fruit when you feel like smoking. it will be good for you and the baby.

just keep thinking of the harm it will do to the baby -these feling will pass after a couple of weeks, eat oranges

Hi! I"m a pediatrician and what we really don't like to hear is mothers smoking while pregnant because there are a lot of side effects on the baby and we are the ones hard up treating them. Parents often blame their pediatricians for some symptoms that are hard to treat but are side effects of their smoking.
Babies of smoking moms are small for their age and this alone can cause so many complications at birth. So please, give your baby a chance....try chewing gums ...
