Omega acids 3,6, and 9 for depression?!

Question: I went to the health food store yesterday to look for something natural for depression. Im trying to avoid the doctor bc I dont have health insurance. And Im trying to find something that works! SAM-E and St. Johns Wort have done nothing for me.

The guy recommended "Natural Balance: Happy Camper" and "Master Blend: Total Omega 3, 6, & 9". I've already opened the Happy Camper.. and I cant really tell if its working.

But the Total Omega, I havnt opened yet and Im thinking about maybe exchanging it for something else.

Do omega acids 3,6, and 9 really help for depression? Im sure Im not getting them in my diet.. bc its rather poor (Im a college student) thanks ya'll!

I have bipolar disorder and have tried the omega route, and noticed no difference in my moods. I have read literature that the fatty acids help depression and mood swings, but I've never heard any evidence from my wide network of friends with bipolar disorder.
Is there any way you can go to your college clinic and see if they have samples or can prescribe you a generic low cost antidepressant? No supplements that I know of have been firmly proven to alleviate depression.

As a quick note, most natural products can take up to a month to notice the full benefits. Also, with mood support, it may take some time to realize "Hey, I haven't felt as bad lately" ;-)

It's possible that fish oil may help for mood because it helps with brain health, but that's not one of the primary benefits. Aside from St. John's Wort and SAMe, you could try some B-Vitamins, GABA, Ashwagandha, and L-Theanine. Try out some different things and see what works best for you. Good luck!
