Do you have any new-age techniques for back problems?!

Question: For protruding disks on 4L and 5L. Narrowed spinal canal, and squashed nerves.

My friend is really suffering and as her friend i want to research personal accounts and encouraging stories to assist her.

I would like suggestions for pain management: reflexology, etc. Instead of medication. Any guidence on effective treatments - not just a back operation!

She is young and her general health is poor - as a result of the pain and limited mobility.

Your assistance and encouragement is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

New-age techniques all started with yoga and yoga is often greatly misunderstood. People think that to get results they have to stretch to the the same extent as a yoga teacher who has been practicing yoga for many years. The whole point is to very gradually attain that kind of flexibility. To do that you must never overstretch and especially never strain. Synchronized gentle stretching and slow gentle breathing brings oxygenated blood to the the seldom used parts of the body that are not getting enough and this brings about healing. Find a good yoga teacher, explain why your friends needs it and practice with careful supervision. It will heal the body and remove mental stress as well.

Have her see an Osteopath.

Reflexologists are quacks.

Naturopaths are crackpots.

Her best bet is still an Orthopedic Surgeon.

I got rolfed and it cured my chronic back pain.

Rolfing is strong massage that is designed to get rid of old habits of muscles and surrounding tissue.

I hurt everywhere and couldn't sit for a hour.
I tried everything and nothing worked.
Now I am fine. That was 15 years ago I got rolfed. I was in chronic pain for about 7 year before that.

So swimming is very good for chronic pain.

Your friend should either try a chiropractor or a physical therapist, but do your research before trying either one, because there are both good and bad ones. For DC's, avoid anyone that tries to sell you on a long term plan or says subluxation. I am not as sure what to watch out for with PT, but I do know some of the them also have some strange ideas.

Spinal manipulative therapy and exercise are effective treatments for this condition and plenty of research articles can be found on www.pubmed.com.

Go to this website and click on find a doctor. As far as finding a PT, this may help.

Hi, I also have a lot of pain and a lot of trouble with my bronchials and allergies and also depression. I have been to a chiropractor and havent really had any relief, sometimes I am scared I am worse then I was before. It frightens me a lot! I also went to a reflexologist and a massage therapist. She was very good but I had so much pain so long after the treatment I quit it. I am going tomorrow to a health food store and going to let her check and see what I am lacking and hope she can help me. I also have an appointment with a different chiro next week one who does natural pathy and also adjustments. I am pretty confused and dont know whether to let him work on me or not. If you are interested to know if the health woman helps me I would be glad to let you know. I am pretty tired of feeling bad, and in so much pain. I wonder if some of it is due to depression and have thought of taking an antidepressant. I am going to see what this health woman talks about tomorrow and ask God to please show me which to do. Ive been on a lot of antibiotics way too long and also some steroid shots for allergies and I know that has caused a lot of problems in my body. It is so hard to know what, who, which, where, to truly go to and take. I live in Illinois and I know that is a big problem also. Lots of things here to make you sick with allergies and also depression. Not a lot of sun and lots of mold, crops, weeds, and etc. Also cold winters, which I do not like anymore at all. I know chiropractors are good and do help so maybe you could find the right one to help. Maybe physical therapy would help also. I think it would help me and I am going to try to start doing more exercising if I feel good long enough to do it. PAIN IS NO FUN!!!! I know stress is a very big factor in mine too.

There are a few things I can suggest, Arnica will help for the inflamation.
Then I would suggest seeing a Napropath and checking out

www.feldenkrais.com and find a local practioner.

I said good bye to my back problem with orthopedics from Good Feet Store about 6 years ago. I wear it everyday and it's great.
