I have been using this type of therapy for 14 years. It is amazing. All the therapists I have seen over the years are all expert in one or more techniques(there are many forms ) Massage therapy or (muscle therapy) as many prefer, is the ultimate natural way to correct some of the damage we do to ourselves on a daily basis. I was told by doctors years ago that I would need spinal fusion surgery in five years. That was almost 12 years ago. I do have pain from a back injury in 94.However, I have no intention of having surgery, muscle therapy gets me through the week, and I take no druigs for pain,( i used to be addicted to pain meds) for like 10 years. My massage therapist makes 60 dollars an hour. She has about 5 clients a day for one hour sessions, thats approx. 300 dollars a day.not bad when you consider the help you will be doing for people who really need it. good luck, go to a reputable school.

For a career such as Massage Therapy, or any career in general, it's worth it if you really love doing it. As far as it having a toll on your body, I'm sure if you're really serious about it you'll go to a good school and they will teach proper body mechanics to ensure injury prevention, also activities and exercises that you can do to improve your strength and endurance.

The salary depends on where you want to take your career. Therapeutic massage is versatile in the sense that it is considered an allied health profession and you have the option of working under the hospitality field (Spas, resorts, cruises, etc.) or health care (hospitals, wellness centers, chiropractors, etc). If you work for someone else you may get paid hourly or commission and that salary is up to your employer.

However, Massage Therapy is also great for those who want to work for themselves. Meaning you can open up your own practice, or contract out with someone else. That way you set your own price list and salary. Just expect that your education will reflect your salary. There are many licensed and certified Massage Therapists out there who specialize in something, not just Therapeutic Massage. For instance, prenatal massage, reflexology, sports massage, etc., and that's extra schooling.

But don't worry, what you put in you'll get back twice as much more.
