Anyone had acupuncture?!

Question: I really want to try acupuncture, but I am not sure what to expect... I know they are sticking needles in you, but what should I expect?? And what are the average costs?? If you have had acupuncture yourself, did you enjoy it? Thanks a lot!!

Best thing I ever did for myself was having acupuncture treatments.
My practitioner charges $80 a session, plus the Chinese herbal formula she prescribes. Usually $95, if it's a customized tea, it'll come to $125.

The first thing they will do is take your medical history, plus ask about how you are feeling lately and/or what symptoms you are having. They will check your pulse in both wrists, your complexion and color, and ask to look at your tongue. From the observations made, they will decide how to place the needles.

The needles are very fine, and only go into the very top layer of the skin. I usually feel just a slight pinch, but if the qi is stagnated at that point or there is inflammation in the corresponding organ, I won't lie, it can HURT.
The pain is usually gone after a few minutes.
You will feel energy moving. It can feel like a warm flush, or like water flowing. Don't be surprised if you twitch a bit too.

You will definitely feel energized after a treatment.
If a detoxifying treatment is done, the next day or so you may not feel too perky while the toxins are flushed, but you'll feel much better after.

The key is to find a certified practitioner. Make sure they have a degree from an accredited school and are fully licensed by the state.
Any whom are graduates from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine are great.

I'm hoping someone answers because I'm curious also because I want to try it.

I have had acupuncture several times. For me, it is uncomfortable when the needles go in but it doesn't hurt. I've had acupuncture to help with sinus infections/flu/colds.

Don't know about avg costs because the doc that did mine was my boss and she did it for free. If I remember correctly it was about $45 a session though.

I didn't enjoy it per se, not like I enjoy a massage or a facial or a pedicure, but it helped and I recommend it.

I've had it many times, the most recent being last week for a severe migraine. I love acupuncture and have had enormous success with it. The needles hurt very little and depending upon your malady, you may get as little as 1 or 2 or as many as 20-30. I had 19 on the front of my head for about 20 minutes, and maybe 20 on my neck/back of my head. The pain in my head was gone almost immediately, and before it was so severe it was a 10/10 for 48 hours!!!

Acupuncture works by inserting the needles into pressure points and redirecting Chi (life energy) in your body. Stagnant or blocked chi can cause almost any malady/sickness etc and thus, is very dangerous.

Many troubles can be fixed in one or two sessions, but if you have say, back trouble, etc, it may take as many as 12 sessions or more, but you can always go for one session and see how you feel!!!

If you have medical coverage, most plans enable you to select acupuncturists. If you do not have coverage, it can run anywhere from $40 per session upwards to $80.

Most importantly, I would research the place, a good, reputable place of course, always uses clean, disposable needles.

If you're in Southern California, I can recommend a great one, but if not you need to research online for those that are licensed. Good Luck!!!

p.s. The most important thing to do when getting acupuncture is to relax!!!

I had accupuncture to drain my sinuses. It was pretty painless. You just close your eyes and relax. They put the needles in the top of your skin and you lay there for a certain amount of time (15 minutes, 30 minutes, etc) I have no idea how much it costs...my insurance covers it. You should see if your insurance will also cover it.
