Is there a good, long-term OTC (Walmart) cough syrup that I can give my child? Thank you.?!

Question: Of available OTCs, I used Equate's equivalent to Robitussin DM for my daughter. She had frequent coughs (allergy-related). We spent lots on Rx cough preparations, but the best *by* *far* was equal parts local honey, fresh lemon juice, and whiskey (in small amounts, of course), known in our household as Mommy's Cough Remedy. She hated the taste of it, but it worked far better than *any* commercial cough medicine.

Nothing much alternatives about cough medicines.
My 4-year old smells essential oils from thei bottles. I use benzoin for a cough. And pine oil because it is anti-bacterial., the benzoin is for chesty coughs and the pine for infections, it doesn't always shift the infection though, only if it's a bacterial one. She's used it since she was 3. Not that she coughs a lot :-)

I would only take a doctor/nurse's advice on this question.

I use a horehound blend that I get at a health food store. It is natural and doesn't have all the chemicals in it. Cherry bark is another good one.
