Pharmacists have to know a lot about all different types of disease states and medicines. It's a great career if you like helping people and are interested in science, especially biology and/or the chemistry behind drugs. There's a lot of studying involved because there is so much to know! Some people don't realise just how much their pharmacist could help them with free medication and health advice, but there is a whole lot more to the job than just running a shop. Speaking of which, you shouldn't be afraid to go speak to a pharmacist about careers, they are generally quite friendly and helpful (though plan your visit for a quiet time when they will have time to chat - not near lunch, opening or closing time).

I live in Australia, so I don't know how much they make in other places, but if you work hard, owning your own business is a definite possibility, and then the amount of money you make depends on the success of your business, so think $$big$$.

You could also consider weekend or holiday work in a pharmacy when you are older (then you can see if you like it). They will probably get you to mainly do things like dusting shelves and working at the cash register first, but stick with it and you will gain loads of experience.

I'm a pharmacy student who also works in a pharmacy, and I love every minute of it! There is always something new to learn, something different to do and interesting people to meet!

practically nothing and a lot of cash

They stare at computer screens all day count pills and make more than they should over 100,000. They are glorified bean counters. In the future they will not be needed machines can do their entire job already.

Pharmacists are health professionals who practice the art and science of pharmacy. In their traditional role, pharmacists typically take a request for medicines from a prescribing health care provider in the form of a medical prescription and dispense the medication to the patient and counsel them on the proper use and adverse effects of that medication. In this role, pharmacists ensure the safe and effective use of medications. Pharmacists also participate in disease state management, where they optimise and monitor drug therapy
