No, in my view, it's best not to use alcohol for this purpose, as it could get to be a habit if you start to rely on it to send you off to sleep, and it's a slippery slope...

Odd as it may sound, lettuce contains a powerful soporific (sleep inducing drug), so you could try a nice thick lettuce sandwich - it's nicer with plenty of salad dressing.

I always find a warm bath is relaxing, so you could try that.

When I had a problem sleeping some years back I found that if I did a workout just before bed (followed by a bath), i dropped off almost immediately.

i know some people drink green tea before going to bed, you could try that.

in a pinch - valerian hops - use only when needed - it is hard on the liver - but after two days or less of use it will knock you out.

Best home remedy, excersise..
