My dad used to gargle vinegar, it really does work. Just add some vinegar to some warm water and perhaps a little sugar and then gargle for a few seconds. It doesn't taste all that pleasant it does work, honest.

Mix some honey with some lemon juice. Warm it and drink it nice and slow..
It soothes the pain.

This is an old choir trick for sore throats/vocal cords.

Try chocolate. It works like a cough drop but better. There is a natural chemical in chocolate found in many cough medicines that will sooth your throat. It will make the coughing easier and and less painful on the throat.

There is nothing you can do to actually stop coughing because coughing is a way to get rid of the irritant in your throat and lungs.

Please read this, it will explain what i mean: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/403258...

You could try gargling warm salt water. It should ease the pain for a little while.

Slice a lemon or lime thinny with the peel, add some brown sugar (not too much) and some honey (optional) into a small bowl and steam it until all the sugar dissolve, eat the lemon or lime it will tase bitter and sour but it will help.

Try gargaling with Aloe Gel, it should ease the pain as it has natural pain relieving propertires and will not affect you nursing you could also try taking Bee propolis which is a natural anti biotic made by bees to keep their hives germ free which is great for clearing up infections. Both are available at

www.foreverbeealoe.com in the online store

hope this helps and it get's better soon and congratulations on becoming a mum x

I just want to add another vote for lemon. I usually use the liquid extract that comes in the plastic looking lemon bottle and just gargle it for a few seconds.

Ginger is very good for a sore throat it can be taken is tea you can buy ginger tea from most places and its quite pleasant to taste.

Gargle with warm salt water. Honey and lemon help also. Just mix honey and lemon and sip it.

Hot beverages are good. I don't use honey, but agave nectar in my tea. Hot soups. Ricola makes pretty good herbal throat drops; I'm a fan of the lemon mint.
