I went to a Chiropractor for 6 months for crackling in hips and neck. No help. Now what?!

Question: I am 55, have crackling and shifting in neck and hips mostly. Going to a chiropractor for more than 6 months hasn't really helped. I practice Yoga but am thinking of taking up Tia Chi for bone mass health. If anyone has any helpful, simple suggestions, I'm all ears or in this case eyes.

The problems that you are having is just plain wear and tear osteoarthritis. Try going to a different chiropractor that will work on your muscles and try to relieve some of your pain. Many chiropractors use massage therapy and exercises as part of their regimen. Chiropractic treatment is in no way going to cure you either, but should offer some symptomatic relief. A lot of chiropractors use various therapies along with adjustments to help restore range of motion and function in the joints. Its excellent that you are physically active because that will prolong your health and reduce the chances of osteoporosis and other major medical conditions. It is sad that this is the wealthiest country in the world with the best medical care yet we are the fattest and most unhealthy as well as drug dependent on the face of this planet. By the way, a physiatrist is a medical doctor that treats musculoskeletal conditions using drugs and more drugs. You won't find him stretching out patients and doing real hands on medicine like chiropractors or physical therapy doctors. Chiropractors are not trying to be medical doctors nor do we want to mess with it. If more people took charge of their health and lived a healthy lifestyle, that would be a really bad day for the pharmaceutical industry that is making billions keeping us sick and medicating the pants off of us.

You wasted your time and money going to a Chiropractor. You can spot a quack chiropractor if he rants against the "evil medical/pharmaceutical establishment".

To make sure there is nothing significantly wrong, you should see a Physiatrist for determination (yes, that's the correct spelling).

A Physical Therapist might help, but most likely you're getting old and your parts are getting loose... Tone up, eat well. Forget the Eastern baloney.

i think that Tai Chi is better for you than Yoga. the movements are easier and better for the older. further you can try Bowen therapy it is more painless and is relaxing more.

Tai Chi/Chi gung will help, although it's somewhat important you find a good teacher for it. If you tell me what part of the country you're in, I *might* know someone there who teaches.

From your descripition, I can't really say what's wrong, but my guess is that you're cartilage is drying up/going away, osteopenia is setting in, and some of your body allingments are out. You can help with the cartillage thing by changing what you eat (google it), and for the alingments something like tai chi would help.
As for osteopenia, there are "eastern" cures, I just don't know this one super well (or for that matter any of the approaches, none that I've seen seemed to glare out at me as solutions). Old people in china do chi gung/tai chi though and they never have any problems from their bones getting older, so I guess id advise looking into that.
Hope that helps!
