How to fight depression naturally?!

Question: What are some ways to combat depression without having to take medication? I don't have insurance and cannot afford to go to therapy or take medication. I know there must be some natural things to do or eat that help? Any suggestions thathave worked for you or someone you know would be greatly appreciated.

Are you aware that you have to work at being depressed. It takes all the muscles in your body, working together to create this feeling of depression.

Some of the things that I've found effective to get over a depressed state is to consider all the things that you are grateful for in your life. At first it may take some time but as you practice this daily it gets easier and easier. Practice this every evening before sleeping and again when you first wake up each day. (sets the tone for the day)

Diet is a huge factor in how we feel emotionally so eat well including lots of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Take a daily supplement that contains the wide range of vitamins/minerals, essential fatty acids and enzymes that the body requires. Lack of minerals will directly affect sleep so you want to ensure you are taking these daily to allow yourself proper rest and the energy required each day.

Try meditation! It's amazing the list of things that simply practicing meditation on a daily basis will address.

Don't forget to drink lots of water, keeping the brain well hydrated again will help your emotional health.

Go to the Library and check out books on personal developement. One of my favorites is The Four Agreements, a simple book, easy read and helped me more than I can say.

5HTP

St. John's Wort is supposed to work kinda like an herbal Prozac.

5-HTP

5-Hydroxytryptophan or 5-HTP is a naturally-occurring amino acid, a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin and an intermediate in tryptophan metabolism. It is marketed in the United States and other countries as a dietary supplement for use as an antidepressant, appetite suppressant, and sleep aid.

try your best to get interested in something. go visit a nursing home. those little people love to have people come just to read to them and other things. do anything that makes you feel good about yourself. don't worry,i've been there so don't worry, if you can do some of these things i guarantee you'll be feeling better in no time. God bless!

Try getting in exercise every day! This really can make a huge difference, there have been studies done and those who exercised on a regular basis reported better mood overall.

When you exercise, you produce endorphines, which naturally lift your mood. Also, by being more fit you will feel healthier overall which can also improve mood.

If you work inside or go to school for hours every day, make sure you get some outside time. Being out in the sun can help lift your mood.

Take some time every day (or every few days) to yourself and just relax! Take a long bath or do something to pamper yourself and try not to let yourself think about the things that are stressing you out.

Use your friends as therapists! Find someone that you can talk to on a regular basis instead of bottling emotions up. Make sure this person will be able to give you positive feedback...talking to a friend that is also depressed will probably not help.

Good luck!

First and foremost, counseling helps most people through the tough times. Finding something to distract you is a good way as well... finding a hobby that you enjoy helps a LOT of people. Exercise helps a lot of people to feel more energized, relaxed, and ready to face the world.

Also, there are several natural products that help depression and promote relaxation. There is St. John's Wort, SAMe, some B-Vitamins, GABA, Ashwagandha, and L-Theanine.

Depression is often genetic, and a doctor should be consulted. There are some herbal remedies that I won't suggest because many people over do it and that causes additional problems. The minds control of serotonin plays a key roll in anxiety and depression, but you should learn why and consider your life and environments. There is nothing wrong with talking to a professional counselor; they are not there to solve your problems, they are there to help you understand your problems.

Green Tea, St. John's Wort and at least 15 minutes of sunshie each day. Exercise will also help combat depression.

Learn relaxation, if you are more relaxed and less tense, you will be able to get your life going in the right direction and depression will soon fade into oblivion
I will send you a relaxation exercise to do, it is on CD and takes 10minutes a day, contact me via e-mail and I will send it to you free of charge

*Exercise* daily, eat regular, balanced meals, (limit caffeine, sugar, junk food, avoid alcohol & other substances), take fish oil & vitamin D &Rhodiola

Exercise and keep yourself busy. I've suffered from depression for the last 11 years, and this has helped more than any medicine I have ever tried.

deep breathing - inhale slowly to the count of four
hold for one sec.

exhale to the count of four completely emptying your diaphragm
hold for one sec.

when you inhale fill your lungs right down to the bottom quarter - both you lungs and diagram should expand.

repeat this four times - you may get dizzy when you first start.

walking is good - walk for a 1/2 hour

make sure you get sunlight - the more then better - sun is healing.

when you exhale make sure you empty your tummy and chest.

I am 37 and have had more bouts with depression than anyone I know. The only thing that has ever worked for me is LimuPlus, It is a liquid Nutritional supplement, and I will never go without it( I have and it aint pretty). I am a whole new person, my life is finally and life now.

I have added some more supportive supplements to my regimine, but I was already better just from the LimuPlus, I am am not sure what exactly about it helped, was it the combination of stuff in it or just the Russian Adaptagens. but Ij am glad they make it , and glad someone made me try it, because I can't imagine being the way I was before, now. And to think all it took was one product? what if I had have found it sooner? Oh well at least i have it now.

Routine exercise is a great place to start. A really good multivitamin and mineral supplement as well as Omega 3 oils.

I also highly recommend taking 5 HTP. It has helped me tremendously. More easily tolerated than prescription anti-depressants tried in the past.

Verily my prayers, my sacrifices, my life, and my death are for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds." (Holy Qur'an 6:162)

The tides of life sweep many people onto new horizons of hopelessness. Life without Islam leaves the weak in this world vulnerable to misuse and oppression. One of the worst forms of abuse is that which is perpetrated by a trusted person in one's life. And this is the sad scenario of many people throughout the world who have had this sacred trust breached by either family members or close friends of the family. The laws of Allah (swt), the Almighty protect the individual and society. But sadly these laws are too often not known or implemented. Satan, the enemy of man, calls for all that destroys the human being. Why do we find so many victims in the world of today - lost, isolated, whose minds feel constant pain and frustration - an inability to change what has occurred. An inability to wipe away the memories of terror and fear and replace it with peace.

Some issues not only affect the body of the human being but reach far down into the spirit and threaten to touch the delicate balance that coordinates the harmony between the body and the soul. Loss of confidence, feelings of guilt and inability to trust - fear of broken trust, fear of loss, fear of fear...

The state of the heart is the key to the balance of the essence of man and so it is no wonder that the traps of Satan are those which urge the physical desires on to acts that will tamper with and destroy the spirit.

However, Allah (swt), the Almighty tells us that the plans of Satan are weak! What joyous news this is for those who have been held in its dark clutches. For Satan works with illusion, while Allah (swt) is reality. Whatever we fear, cannot harm us for we know that only Allah (swt) is to be feared - for nothing occurs without His guiding hand and He guides to all that is good. He is the One who can turn evil into good.

The evil touch, the memory of betrayal can so easily be replaced with the remembrance that Allah (swt), His light and guidance can lift us far and away - beyond time and space - to a place of peace, where the dismal memories that cloud the mind are dispelled in a puff. The heart finds lightness, grace and wispy breezes of comfort in the words of Allah (swt) - the final message to man, that contains all the knowledge essential for our growth and overcoming of the evil within ourselves and in the world around us.

The victims of the world, have a greater potential for growth than any others. The spirit once touched, is open to light and guidance, softer and more compassionate to the pain of others and inner troubles of the mind stir the individual to walk the steep paths of life and thereby, through their sincerity and efforts find the vast richness of the Mercy of Allah (swt), which extends to the oppressed who with sincerity seek His ever present help.

May Allah (swt) bind the hearts of the victims to Him, that they will never give up in this journey of life. For every single person in this world carries some form of burden, some fear, some care, some disappointment, some loss - but nothing can harm the spirit, which is the essence of man which belongs to Allah (swt) and will return to Him, in the form in which it was molded in this world.

The decision belongs to us. We sink or swim. We strive or give up. But before we choose we must remember that Allah (swt) promises not to give us more than we can bear if we sincerely strive to follow His way, trusting in Him. Alone we will surely destroy ourselves, but with His ever Merciful help, nothing - absolutely nothing is impossible!

Allah (swt) burdens not a person beyond his scope. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished for that (evil) which he has earned. Above all, prayer and remembrance of Allah (swt) brings peace to the troubled mind and contains the only sure cure for the heart that cannot find peace. "Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us Forgiveness. Have mercy on us."
