Olive Oil benefits - taken internally?!


Question: i know ppl take olive oil and then spit it out after certain time. Im not sure how long. are there benefits to that?how are u supposed to do it? what does it do?

Sounds like you are referring to Oil Pulling, but Olive Oil is not one of the preferred oils, generally it's suggested you us Sun Flower Oil or Sesame Oil and Yes, this works very well. It helps pull toxins from the body and an added benefit is this system truly whitens teeth!

As for Olive Oil it is the top oil to use in a cold form, for salad dressings and other things. Filled with antioxidants it helps the body fight inflammation.

Dr. Deane Answers: I cannot find any scientific studies which suggest health benefits from chewing and spitting olive oil. There are very few toxins that are capable of building up in the body and I cannot see how any of these could get out of bones, fat deposits, etc. in the short time that one swishes olive oil.

Take olive oil in a salad dressing. Pour it over freshly made pasta. When olive oil is heated in cooking it loses it's goodness. When you ingest healthy fats it outweighs the bad fats you have ingested. The body will use the fats that are available to it. If you are eating hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fats or oils the body will use them if there are no good fats available. These bad fats disallow the cells to perform some of their natural functions, meaning they get in the way of health and wellness. That is why we need to ingest healthy fats. What your talking about is called "Oil Pulling". Oil Pulling or oil swishing, in alternative medicine, is a procedure that involves swishing oil in the mouth for oral and systemic health benefits.

The procedure involves using 1 tablespoon of sesame oil or sunflower oil. Put the oil in your mouth and swish it for 15-20 minutes on an empty stomach, preferably first thing in the morning. The oil is put in to the mouth, with chin tilted up, and slowly swished, chomped, and pulled through the teeth. The oil will change from yellow thick oil to a thin and foamy consistency before spitting out. Do Not Swallow the oil!!!
