What are the side effects of cephalexin?!

Question: I use it for acne and i was wondering what are the side effects and how can you prevent the side effects, if possible?
I was also wondering has it helped anyone?

I 100% agree with the side affects listed from the person before me.

I would also like to answer your question. My sister took erythromycin capsules for her acne and it worked for a little while for her. She started this when she was 29 or 30. She has tried everything under the sun even the Proactive stuff on TV. Sadly she still has problems. That is not to say that you will not have success. Every persons body is different in it's own unique way. What works for one may not work for another.

To prevent the nasty side effects? For upset stomach take with food(a meal, toast, cracker, cookie, etc.). DO NOT take an antacid(TUMS, Pepcid, Zantac) within 2 hours of your dose because these will decrease the effectiveness of the cephalexin. For diarrhea ask your doctor or pharmacist if you can take Immodium. I find that works like a charm for me. Be careful with that though so it doesn't go to far the other way - if you know what I mean. For yeast infections I find that taking Acidolphulus morning and night from the day I start til a couple days after I stop works well for me. For some people this MAY cause a little diarrhea too. The last time I did this I was on 2 high powered antibiotics so my tummy was a time bomb waiting to go. Cut back a bit on sugar and alcohol while on the antibiotic too. These feed what I call the "yeast beast". Yeast loves to grow in dark, warm, moist areas ON the body but IN the body feeds on sugar and alcohol with the antibiotic thrown in.

Hope that between us both we were a help. Good luck.

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking cephalexin and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately:

an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; hives; or a rash);
rash, redness, or itching;
severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea;
mucous or blood in the stool; or
unusual bleeding or bruising.
Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take cephalexin and talk to your doctor if you experience

mild nausea or diarrhea, or
a yeast infection of the mouth or vagina.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome
