Are their non surgical alternatives to treat hernias?!
Question: There is no non surgical alternative to a hernia repair. You did not state the type of hernia you have but in general hernias get worse over time. The risk of a strangulated bowel is rare but it can happen. I would seek out a good hernia surgeon, so the repair is done correctly. A laprascopic procedure is not the way to go, as the hardware can cause chronic pain and it is not a good repair. Most good hernia surgeons opt for a tension free open repair. Many repairs can be done in a day surgery setting, and you are up and around in no time. I would check out the North Penn Hernia Inst. Look at their website as you can ask Dr. Goodyear questions about your hernia and he will answer you. You can learn much by reading about the different types of hernias and the types of repairs. 3 years ago I had my right inguinal hernia repaired there and have been problem free.

Yes wear a truss the rest of your life or until the hernia gets strangulated and it kills you small intestine. Then go for the operation or die, your choice.
Not really..they use to sell these wide belts that help keep your "bulge" from getting bigger...but they are not very practical and dont really work.You have a tear in your abdominal muscles and your intestines are pushing on this area and push through as it gets bigger. You need to have it repaired...most are done with laproscope...back up in a few days.

yeah, I have a incisional hernia, and it feels like it needs surgery for SURE. I cant think of any non-surgical method to repair your abdominal wall. But the pain drugs ROCK!!! So dont worry.
Yah they sell hernia bags now and you can tie them on tight and it will all go away. You can get them in Wallie Marts

Personally I want to avoid surgery like the plague but when I thought I had a hernia I considered the possibility of stangulation much more or a risk than complications from the surgery.
As surgery goes this procedure has a very high success rate and is a very routine relatively simple opperation.
I am a complementary therapist but am realistic about the limitations. Surgery is necessary sometimes and does have a place in the complement of healthcare options.
