Why is the fda.....?!

Question: why is the fda and the government so strict on drugs, we obviously know there are ways to cure things without the use of drugs (drugs meaning prescription drugs), marijuana is a good alternative to commercial medecine yet the government calls it illegal, but we can take something similar with horrible side effects. why do we need them to tell us what works for us, shouldnt we have that freedom. normal plants and vegetables and fruits can really save your body and power your immune system, but now we got all these pills we can take that will do the same thing but at what cost. all im saying is the fda should lighten its grip on what should be a drug and a remedy.

its the politics and money behind it. doctors are taught by schools run by the pharmaceuticals and the doctors push the drugs pharmaceuticals make billions off of. its a sick twisted game that in the end only harms patients. a simple "cure" would be to easy and wouldn't generate enough revenue to pay for their 2nd homes and fancy sports car. the sad thing is, many patients are so adamant about taking the toxic drugs doctors give them without realizing the harm they cause until its too late and the damage is caused. just spread the word that there are alternatives and hopefully they'll take to heart your well intentioned advice.

The simple answer is because drugs can easily be abused and can have lethal effects when they are abused.
That's why most drugs that are more powerful and/or stronger are prescription required.

Also, drugs don't cure most things... they just suppress the symptoms. That's also the main reason that drugs are used in hospitals and ERs... they can turn off symptoms that may end up killing someone (in turn, saving their life), while herbs can help the problem that's causing the symptom (which could take days before you feel an effect). Drugs by their nature are chemicals that turn off certain reactions that are natural in the body in order to suppress the symptoms of an illness and make it more bearable while your body fights the illness. Of course, herbs help provide nourishment to your body in order to prevent some symptoms from happening in the first place.
The biggest problem is that because drugs turn off some natural process in your body, they all have some sort of side effects... some big, some small. Heck, I've seen some drugs that had a side effect listed that was virtually the same thing as what it was supposed to help. LOL!!
I've got a lot of other stories and scary facts about certain drugs.... but I'll save you that for now ;-)

a.) Here in Canada, medical marijuana IS legal. It is used to legally treat glaucoma, MS, Parkinson's, and AIDS.

b.) Many chronic health conditions can be prevented through healthy living, which has nothing to do with the FDA. In addition serious diseases that are genetic or cannot be prevented require actual medical treatment, not a herbal concoction.

It's not like you don't have a choice to take herbal and dietary supplements. What exactly is your point over the FDA??? You can take whatever you want. But you should be thankful that should the need arise, you will have Western medicine to keep you alive should you need it.

My friend just had her brain tumour shrunk with chemo and radiation. My other friend, a Type 1 diabetic (the severe genetic non-preventable form of the disease that always requires insulin) has survived past her diagnosis at age 2 because she has insulin. My cousin survived an asthma attack because of his Ventolin inhaler. I survived a fever and infection because of antibiotics. You too will have these choices if you even need them.

No one is stopping your freedom to try alternative medicine, but know that *in general* it is limited in what it can treat. I agree that Big Pharma *can* be bad if misused. It can also save lives. I am not against proven forms of alternative medicine like dietary supplements. But realize that sometimes it alone is not enough.

I agree that the US is being stupid about not legalizing medical marijuana. I have no idea why they are being so stupid. Perhaps they are scared of the potential for lung cancer and heart disease? Which I find funny, because those who will use it will likely die before any of those complications develop.

If there was no FDA, consumers would be prey to any altmed quack and con artist promising cures without actually going to the trouble of finding out whether the cure is real.

Wait! That's already happening even though there's an FDA.

Never mind...

ps
Marijuana medicine is legal in the USA. It's called Marinol.

Why is the world corrupt?
Cause it is?

The way government programs tend to work is that initially they are put into place to address a real problem since there is a huge ammount of outrage in the population and activists protest for something to be done, such as a government policy to address the problem.

Once that happens however, since the political system is somewhat corrupt, overtime these good governement departments succumb to corporate lobbying and start serving their needs instead of the people's.

In the case of the FDA, the turning point for the department is often considered to be when Searle tried to get aspartame approved. In just about any simple study done, it was shown that aspartame was extremely toxic, and did stuff like cause animals to have brain bleeds. Despite Searle relentlessly trying to lobby to get the FDA to do something, aspartame was bad enough that the FDA would not budge. Around this time Rumsfeld became the president of Searle, and his colleague Ronald Regan became president. Once Regan came into power, he fired the FDA head, and put someone else in place who immediately ratified aspartame. This has commonly been considered the turning point for when the FDA became "bad."

There are definitely still good scientists working in the place, but more and more are getting kicked out, or being punished for whisleblowing various stuff that's done. As it stands now, while the FDA does to an extent try to protect consumers from eating toxic stuff, it's primarily out to promote the commerical interests of it's corporate clients and to explicitly answer your question, some of those interests include:

*Having cheap health alternatives be illegal
*Let toxic stuff be given to consumers
*Have a giant war on drugs exist (although this is more the DEA and not the FDA)

Drugs and Surgery are needed in emergency crisis..But they don't prevent, treat, or cure anything...You have to get to the root cause...The American Medical Association did a study stating that 90 percent of all illness is cause by stress, which depletes our body, mind, and spirit..Unmanaged stress, and the way you internalized stress in your life can make you sick, anything from panic attacks to Heart Disease...I have a problem with people going to the doctor saying that they have symptoms and are given drugs without nutritional, and mental emotional advise.. Stress+poor diet=nutritional deficiences, which cause disease.. Stress management is the most important of these factors..

The Purpose of the FDA

The Food and Drug Administration exists solely for the purpose of protecting the population of the United States from harmful products. Though many see this as a way for the government to control the choices of the citizens, the results of not having this protective presence would be frightening. Thousands would die per year due to toxic ingredients in products, bacteria, and other sources
