Its been weeks since I went to the doctors & I still can smell his collogne around me?!

Question: I didn't see a ring on him.

Answers: I didn't see a ring on him.

Ew. You poor thing. (Sorry if that's incorrect; I have an ultra-keen sense of smell, so many things bother me that don't bother others.)

Smell is the only sense hard-wired directly to the brain, which is why certain smells can bring up memories so clearly--the association remains strong in our memory pathways. I suspect you're experiencing a memory of his cologne, rather than the actual fragrance. The compounds used to make his cologne have no doubt dissipated into the air, but when they were fresh they imprinted vividly on you.

If you like it, enjoy it. If not, it can be difficult to get rid of the sensation. You may form new associations in time, such as annoyance or extreme dislike, which could jeapordize your relationship with your physician. Try to distract yourself with one of your favorite fragranced candles. Burn it every day until it replaces the icky cologne.

You can smell his cologne as your are tapping into your sixth sense. Concentrate on trying to learn how to use your sixth sense so you have a clue what it means.

Did it have an unpleasant smell? Sometimes a bad/weird smell, can get "stuck in your head" like a song. His cologne is not still actually on you, but you think about that smell and smell it again.

One time my dad had this cooler outside with food in it from when we had an ice storm & 3-day power outtage. He put it outside to keep it good. Well he forgot about it and it sat out there for almost a year, all the way till the end of that summer. He finally opened it and the smell was the worst thing I've ever smelled in my life. All that day and several days after that I kept thinking my room smelled like that and it would just flash back to me. It still does flash back to me occasionally now, 2 years later.

Smells get stored in your brain like any other information, and can be recalled and almost brought to life.
