Is Airborne effective and what symptoms should you look out for before taking it?!

Question: Airborne is worthless, though many people have been fooled.

Michael Shermer did an article for Scientific American which discredits Airborne.

One excerpt:
"I consulted Harriet Hall, a retired U.S. Air Force flight surgeon and family physician who studies alternative medicine. Hall looked up Airborne's ingredients in the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database and found no evidence that any of the ingredients prevents colds. Worse, vitamin A is unsafe in doses greater than 10,000 units a day, and Airborne contains 5,000 units per tablet and recommends five pills a day or more. The only positive finding was for vitamin C, for which some evidence indicates that taking high doses may shorten the duration of cold symptoms by one to one and a half days in some patients. But the large amounts needed may cause side effects. 'There's more evidence for chicken soup than for Airborne," Hall told me.'"

Airborne is a marketing-driven scam.

I believe it is effective and I take it without having any symptoms, just if I know someone who is sick or am around sick people..... But take it if yo have a scratchy throat and/or stuffy nose, any early symptom go for it.... It won't hurt you if taken as directed

Airborne is not a cure for colds. Despite the fact that there have been no studies to prove its strong medical benefit, it has been theorized that it does prove successful sometimes, and that success is all mental-it gives you peace of mind. Besides, how does a teacher suddenly come up with the solution to the common cold after scientists have been trying to do just that for years and years?

Airborne is loaded with Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant and immune booster. They say to take it when you feel like you're coming down with a cold, or if you are somewhere more likely to catch a cold from other people.
Taking Vitamin C supplements is the same thing, or drinking a glass of orange juice!

honestly I tried it and I swear it gave me a cold.
