Answers: Do forensic psychiatrist treat people of all ages? Do they treat specific diseases or specific body parts?

Forensic means crime.

Forensic psychiatrists would be like B.D. Wong's character on Law and Order: SVU (Dr. Huang). I think most psychiatrists would do a mix of forensic and regular work, because unless he/she lived in a big city with a LOT of crime, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to just do forensic work.

Psychiatrists treat people of all ages, though very young children are tricky to treat and many psychiatrists flat-out won't deal with them.

Psychiatrists deal with mental illness and physical problems stemming from or related to mental illness. So, a psychiatrist might treat, say, aches and pains related to depression, but they'd treat the depression with meds and hope that it would cure the pain. They specialize in mental health care, and shouldn't be used for other issues.

Forensic psychiatrists would deal with, say, abuse victims, POWs, kidnapping victims, people with PTSD from witnessing crimes, that sort of thing. They would evaluate criminals or suspects as well and give personality profiles of criminals to help investigators. They would also help law enforcement officers and act as professional witnesses.

A forensic psychiatrist only works in the forensic/crime area. They usually try and understand the minds of criminals. Of course they can help the victims. They are more interested in finding out what triggers people to do certain things.

I'm studying Forensic science. If you want, you can email me and I can give you more information on this subject.

Hope this helps.

Forensic does not mean crime. A forensic specialist is anyone who looks at evidence retrospectively
