Has anyone here tried acupuncture and if so has it been beneficial to you?!

Question: I am just curious. I may try some acupuncture for some health problems and would like some feedback from yahoo answers regarding this. Thank you for your time!

I've been having acupuncture treatments by different practitioners for about 20 years, and I would definitely recommend them. I go pretty infrequently, only when something is bugging me, so it's not like you have to go every week/month/whatever. You don't have to get locked into going back. If someone makes you do that than I would say the practioner themself is not reliable or trustworthy -- I wouldn't categorically dismiss the practice itself.
I've been helped with: back pain; migraines; allergies; insomnia; stress; and more. (If I list too much it will make me sound like a total mess!)
HIGHLY recommended!
(Oh, and I started going in New England and New York, as well as California.)
Good luck!

Yes and it wasn't beneficial in the long term. It seemed to me like the stories I hear about chiropractors, you have to continue to seem them forever. An very few acupuncturists are covered by insurance

Well I haven't had acupuncture personally, but my mom has. She HAD high blood pressure, but in about 2 weeks, after one acupuncture appointment, her blood pressure went back to completely normal levels. She also had other health issues that were completely resolved because of acupuncture. I know she would absolutely recommend it; supposedly, it is not painful, and can actually be relaxing. I also encourage it because it helped my mom to improve her health. Best wishes to you and your health!

YES, I have when I was a lot younger, Iam 24 now so I think it must have been about 10 years ago. My dad took me for loosing weight Iand my brother for his little ticks he HAS. No it did not work for either one of us he still has his ticks I still had weight problems until I did the old fashion way diet and exercise. If your insurance covers it then go for if not then i would think twice about it.

Acupuncture is more popular in California than in China. What does that tell you ?

A good review of acupuncture can be found at the webpage below. Basically, acupuncture has been proved to be slightly better than placebo for short-term pain and related symptoms. but it's oversold and ineffective for everything else. Educated Chinese are abandoning acupuncture and TCM at a rapid rate. They trust "Western" medicine more...

Acupuncture is not a miracle treatment just like any other medicine and treatment. It does not cure it all. But it got rid of my headache in just one treatment. No or min. side affect, well worth a try. Even insurance co approved. Take care!

Yes, and it has been. I had brain surgery and I was recommended it to recover some of my neurological and motor control (although the guy I saw was one of the best in the country so it might be rare to encounter it). I also have a friend who was sexually abused as a child who has used it to help cope with her past trauma.
The degree and effect of accupunture completely depends on the condition the person has, and how good the accupuncturist is. The best best people can cure most ailments they are presented with (besides those requiring immediate emergency surgery). The worse can only help with pain. Unfortunately, most of the top skilled people live in China and not the US. As such, the number of treatments accupuncture is advised and reccomended for is quite narrow over here.
Hope that answers your question!

Also, to paraphrase the other response
Has anyone here tried acupuncture and if so has it been beneficial to you?

Kalos: No I have not (which means I should not be answering this question), but accupuncture is stupid and bad. Let me cite a bad source (funded by groups with competing comercial interests to accupuncture) to prove my point.
If that doesn't convince you, I'll also throw in some blatant falsehoods, such as there being more accupuncture in california than China!
