My apple cider vinegar has grown layers of white solid growths. What is this?!

Question: I mixed this vinegar in a protein shake and drank it for 3 weeks. Then i got a very red, sore throat and an apparent yeast infection that has not responded well to treatment. I can't find a lab to have the vinegar tested. My internal medicine doctor doesn't think my illness is connected to vinegar.

The white solid growth on your cider vinegar is called the "mother". It is not harmful. It just looks bad.

I am in agreement with your doctor. I think you got a bug from something else.

Yeast infections come from other things than sex!! I have a friend who cannot take bath or she gets yeast infections. She always has to take showers, much to her great disgust. She like all of us likes bubble bath!! Report It

  • starch from the sugar in the apples... it is turning to booze ut might not be fit to drink...

Sounds like some kind of fungus or the two ingredients didn't mix very well. I hope you stopped taking it. When you try to conjure up protein shakes or anything maybe for dieting, try to find recommended mixes and ingredients and don't go with things you hear or think will work. Good luck :)

Why did you want to drink this stuff in the first place? Has it helped your health? Has it made you lose weight? Has it given you energy?

How about eat a healthy balanced diet instead of creating your own "protein shakes".

Eat more lean proteins/meats, low fat dairies, veggies, fruits, and good carbs such as oatmeal, brown rice, 100% whole wheat bread, whole grain cereals, etc.

Drinking a gallon of water a day is also great for the health.

    Cheers and BE WELL!

oh it's nothing, it happens to mine all the time. i just get a spoon and it that part first. It's the best...drink up ;)

    I agree with daft one.

unless your lift wieghts, if you eat a balanced diet, there is no need to take protien shakes. but then again i wouldnt imagine that fungi and bacteria could grown in vinager. it might be a reaction when your mixed rpotein shake and vinagar. I never heard of any one doing that but it had to taste god awful.
