How to meditate?!

Question: I've been under A LOT of stress lately. I'm exercising, eating ok, and have started keeping a journal, but would like to do more. I'm interested in meditating, but I don't know where to start.

Most Eastern procedures are unsuited to Western life style and may even harm if done improperly.
TM is a non-denominational procedure, which is effective. The problem is that finding 20 minutes twice a day for it just does not happen, however good one's intentions are.

The method that is suggested below works, though it takes a few weeks to show significant results.

Find a secluded place and sit comfortably. You should be able to hold that for five minutes, without any strain. Close the eyes.Just be aware of your breath going in and out. Do not make any attempt to control it. Just be aware of it going in and out. For five minutes.
That is it. Do this twice a day. After a week you will find that breath slows down on its own. Becomes more even. Thoughts get slowed down. In about five weeks your breathing will come down to half the number/minute you had at start. Thoughts will have almost stopped during the meditation.
If you want, you may increase this to 10 minutes. There is no need to go beyond. Do not fret if you miss a few times. There is no compulsion. No punishment for missing a few, or giving up.

well, it really depends entirely on you. find a position ( it doesnt have to be cross legged! It could be just lying down) that you feel reaaly comfortable in, and control your breathing. just try counting your breaths until you think of nothing else. if you cant think of nothing, then think of something you really like and focus on it. i like ferris wheels, so i think about that! sounds silly, but helps! start like that for a while. it takes a while for you to really reach a meditative state, and could take months, but it'll come.
good luck!

I release my stress by listening to ENYA great cds for just listening to your body and breathing it really does calm you down.

Sit in a small carpet, and make vroom-vroom noises while leaning forward. Soon you will have the sensation of floating and...
