What are people's thoughts on Echinacea? Has it worked for anyone?!

Question: I often try to use Echinacea as a supplement when I feel like I am getting sick. I usually take it in the pill form. But does it actually work for people? I know it is not FDA approved but they say it has worked in preventing/fighting colds in independent studies. Has it worked for anyone here? Or do you think it's just the whole "placebo effect"?

I used to use an echinacea/goldenseal/cayenne/garlic supplement when I felt a cold coming on, and 99% of the time I didn't get sick. Goldenseal is a natural antibacterial, and echinacea is supposed to boost your immune system. I can't take stuff like that anymore because of a health condition (NOT caused by echinacea) but it sure worked great for me!! I'd still take it if I could. You have to take it before you get really sick, though - don't wait until it's full-blown flu.

Echinacea is another altmed favorite that has been shown to be ineffective. Echinacea does not prevent colds, nor shorten their course.

I am not sure about Echinacea, i took it a while back but i don't think it did anything for me. If i feel like i am getting a cold or something i just take vitamin C and it works like a charm.

Echinacea is supposed to boost your immune system but it is only suitable for short term use. Long term use may do the opposite and it may actually weaken your immune system.

I know when I mixed the extract with water( I had a cold) before going to bed, the next day, I felt a lot better. I only go by how my body responded to a herb not medical reports.
