Can Ginger help with?!

Question: Heartburn or does it cause it?

Answers: Heartburn or does it cause it?

Ginger is a carminative. That means it helps with gas in the stomach and intestines. Gas can make us burp before our food is digested and that sometimes causes acid reflux. In that case, ginger would help with heartburn.

It is also antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory so helps with cramps in the gut. It is anti-emetic, or helps with nausea and the need to vomit.

However, if a person did not have heartburn or any such digestive problem and took ginger on an empty stomach it could irritate the stomach lining and cause symptoms similar to heartburn.

Personally, I experience that with peppermint, another herb used to help digestion. If all in my digestion is working well, I avoid peppermint.

It seems like it would be more likely to help it than cause it unless you take too much.

" Ginger root is widely used as a digestive aid for mild stomach upset and is commonly recommended by health care professionals to help prevent or treat nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness, pregnancy, and cancer chemotherapy. Ginger is used as support in inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, and may even be used in heart disease or cancer."

"Side effects associated with ginger are rare, but if taken in excessive doses the herb may cause mild heartburn. Some of the mild gastrointestinal side effects, such as belching, heartburn, or stomach upset, may be relieved by taking ginger supplements in capsule."

I think it would help. My favorite way to use ginger is to peel and chop up a piece of root, put it in a cup, pour hot water over it, add sugar, and let it steep. It is a good tasting tea.
For heartburn you may also try sipping a drink made from a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and hot water.
