Yes it is safe IF it is the pharmo grade kind you get in a capsule from the nutritional store or the drugstore vitamin area. You cannot just take charcoal like you would use for the grill as it is too full of potentially dangerous impurities. It can be used for bad breath, if you have gotten too drunk and don't want a hangover (it won't make you less drunk) or to absorb various toxins in the digestive tract.
