I just graduated as a Naturopathic Doctor and to be honest a lot of children develop eczema....the best thing to do I believe would be to take your son to a REGISTERED Naturopathic Doctor because eczema is an internal condition manifested externally....what i mean by that i that a lot of times it can develop as a result of food allergies (such as to dairy or wheat). Things like fish oil (omega 3's) and other supplements can be very effective! A lot of doctors may prescribe corticosteroids however this is a "bandaid" solutions and is only treating a symptom not getting to the root cause of the problem (corticosteroids actually don't even work most of the time and can cause a great deal of other problems). I would definitely recommend taking your son to see a Naturopathic Doctor in your area in order to assess the root cause of his eczema!!!

Prepare a concoction of Vitex negundo "Lagundi" leaves and roots, by boiling them in water for 30mins. When cooled use it to towel bath your baby... it helped in healing my beau's skin eczema.

My sisters and mom use cortaid 10 it works great!

I totally agree with megan. I was going to say the same thing to you before I read megans reply. Most to basically all skin conditions are caused from something internal, generally food. I am an alternative health practitioner and also wheat intolerant (also called celiac) and have done extensive research on the food allergy/intolerance and skin conditions connection. Generally the only thing that will make a significant improvement is a removal of all things you baby is allergic/intolerant too. Get him tested for celiac disease, along with tests for corn, soy, egg, milk, and nuts. I can almost guarantee you one of these is the cause of his problems. I would wonder if he has anything else going on as well, like digestive issues.

Gail, hello. Betamethasone Valerate is a corticosteroid and should not be used on young children! Most kids grow out of eczema on their own, and unless your baby's condition is severe you ought not to worry about it.
White Petrolatum (vaseline) is a good moisturizer and can't do any harm.
If you do have to use some remedy on your baby, I recommend that you try anti-eczema cream from http://www.champori.com It is herbal (steroid-free) and works very well for me (I'm an adult with eczema).
Best,
Bernadette

As you can see after 4 months of use of dermatologist cream
nothing came out. To add to that the so called doctor
suggested not to apply anyother cream except the one
she prescribed because these drug industries pay lot of
money to these doctors whom we consider next to God and
trust and believe them. It is a very big racket that is going on
and heneceforth please do not succumb to such
allopathic quackery. As Megan suggested go to a
naturopathist and have your child treated there and if you
cannot find one in your area go for homeopathy and do not
let paid agents of the drug industry tell you otherwise.
Good luck and God bless you and your child. Cheers!:o)

Putting creams on the outside of the body are great for helping with symptoms, however they are ineffective at targeting the cause of the problem. also, remember the skin is a two way organ, things applied to the skin will soak through... i wouldnt even consider using high chemical containing substances on myself.

treating the cause should always have higher priority than dealing with symptoms.

there are a few things that can contribute to eczema, i had it when i was a child and have battled long to get passed it now.

i would suggest going to see a naturopath.

i got no help from doctors in this area and was told i would 'have it forever' and that i should deal with it and use creams when it gets bad.

once i spoke to a naturopath about diet and toxins and the like... i finally started to see progress and i eventually beat the problem.

ive read that if the liver cannot deal with the task of getting rid of toxins that it shifts work to the skin which isnt really designed for it...

ive also read that if the body is overwhelmingly acidic that bacteria can find cells to infect easier as they are weaker and then highly acidic blood and sweat keep feeding the bacteria. as bacteria thrives in acidic conditions.

i beat my eczema with a variety of treatments, a formulated herbal extract made up by a naturopath for me, a lot of omega 3, herbal liver support capsules (dandelion root and milk thistle) and lots of vegetable juice aimed at restoring acid/alkaline balance and strengthening the liver (things like celery, spinach, broccoli, [for the alkaline] carrot, beetroot [for the liver]).

for symptoims i used a green tea and honey based calendula cream, which is much better at soothing symptoms than the harsh chemical creams. you can get these at most health stores.

regardless, im much older so the things ive taken might not be suitable for a young child or infant, i also fasted many times to help with eliminating toxins, this is not recommended for children as they are growing and need fuel.

as others have mentioned, food alergies can also be a problem. when i was a child i had a gluten intolerance as well and i also still have problems with dairy. its no coincidence it was mentioned above. the liver has many jobs to do inside the body, it is the second largest organ in the body after all. the liver has to process all this stuff we give it, and if it isnt in the best state the body copes the best way it can.

i grew out of my gluten intolerance but then it came back, once i strengthened my liver and restored my acid/alkaline balance it went away again....

i would see a naturopath, thats how i started to learn everything to help myself.

Good Luck : )
