What does ginkgo biloba do?!

Question: I thought it was for circulation, but found it in the brain health section of the supplements aisle

Answers: I thought it was for circulation, but found it in the brain health section of the supplements aisle

Gingko is a well known Vasodilator - it functions to open up arteries and veins in peripheral areas of the body. So it would therefore increase blood flow to areas like the brain, the legs and sex organs. Consequently, it is thought to be useful against dementia(Alzheimers/Parkinsons), varicose veins, impotence etc.

Hope it helps :)

Although not many scientific studies have been conclusive, it is used for so many things - too many to list (including brain health!). See the links below, it will explain anything you need to know.

improves your memory....

Ginkgo is widely used in Europe for treating dementia. It use is primarily due to its ability to improve blood flow to the brain and because of its antioxidant properties. The evidence that ginkgo may improve thinking, learning, and memory in people with Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been highly promising.

Its an anti-oxidant and supposed to be great for the skin as well!

NOTE: Over 90 percent of herbs in health food stores don't work, because they are not standardized or regulated. Thus, the mostly inconclusive studies.

WHAT GINKO DOES IN A NUT SHELL: If you get a hold of a standardized pharmaceutical grade ginko biloba,it expands arteries which increases blood flow. Thus, the few conclusive studies.

KNOWN DANGER: It interacts with blood thinning medication and can cause internal bleeding.
