It would if the hairloss is connected to iron deficiency, which is quite common, but it would need to be taken with a good source of vitamin C, such as blackcurrant, broccoli, peppers or Acerola cherry juice, to help absorption.
There is no known cure for baldness. Your mate would be better off coming to terms with the fact that he is slaphead.

sorry to burst ur bubble but baldness is genetic and there is no known cure. blackstrap molasses is a good iron supplement and has nothing to do with hair growth. sorry!
