Does anyone here take St. Johns Wort?!

Question: If so, do you like it? Is there really an increased sensitivity to light? What is the best brand to try?
Thanks~

I don't take it due to taking birth control, so if your on that don't take St Johns Wort. Its an over time pill that it's supposed to work, however nothing as far as data is concerned has been proven. Yes it will make you sensitive to sun light. Also look for a pill that has yellow powder if you plan on buying some.

I never took it long enough to have an effect, yet I know some people who swear by it.

I heard it does not work from several people. If you have season depression during winter, I find going to a tanning bed helps me a bit. I know it is not "healthy" but it elevates my mood.

I've tried it. It makes me feel bad, but I forget how. Kinda nauseous or irritable I think. Also makes my skin break out. Brand shouldn't matter too much; it should be a simple thing to grind it up and put it in capsules. Not sure, though.

Fish oil is probably a smarter thing to try, especially if your diet lacks omega-3. St. Johns can work for some people.

yes there is an increase sensitivity to light- if you work out doors or spend time tanning- or spend most of the time outside with your skin exposed it will affect you.

I've taken it before and had good experiences. I didn't notice an increased sensitivity to light, but it definitely did elevate my mood. Like someone else already said though, I've heard it can cause birth control to not work, so be careful. There are a lot of different herbal things you can try. I also like Kava Kava... helps with my anxiety.

yeah it makes u hallucinate

I take it. Get a standardized product: .3% hyperizine.

It works quite well for me. Give it time to work for you. It might take a month, although for me it took effect in 4-5 days. Lots of studies support it. In Germany, 50% of all prescriptions written by doctors for depression are for St. Johns Wort.

It can make you more sensitive to light.

The best to you.

Kelley

I usually get the cheap brand and I've not had problems taken it. As a matter of fact its doing my 10 yr old daughter and I wonders for our ADHD.
