Stay up! Stay in a comfortable room and don't go to bed until you are dropping down with tiredness. If you get to bed and you don't fall over within 15 minutes - get up and do the whole thing again. Watch TV - read a book until you feel so tired that you need to fo to bed - then go. Worrying about falling asleep will keep you awake! So do something else and the when tired - go to bed!

It completely depends on what's causing your insomnia, it could be stress related, due to your diet, or because of medication.
You need to address the cause before you can cure it, which means taking a good long look at yourself.
One thing you could try is, this may seem obvious, but being physically tired! Completely wear yourself out with lots of exercise before going to bed, you'll sleep like a baby,

Cannot explain why but if I count backwards from 100 it bores me to sleep. If not try drinking a glass of milk before going to bed and read for a while

For me personally, I eat certain foods about an hour before sleeping. Some of these are cooked onions, dairy products, turkey. I avoid stimuants such as coffee. I clear my mind of negativity before sleep and usually have good dreams. Hope this helps you.
