Cheaper multis often have the lousy "dl" form. (the "L" stands for lousy.) You might need to go to a health food store to find lots of different multi's with the natural form of vitamin E.

The best to you.

The dl form is a racemic mixture of the dextro- and levo-rotary forms, Only the d-form is active. The l-form is inactive. They use the mixture because it is far less expensive than it would be to supply the pure d form.

By way of explanation -- tocopherol is optically active, which is to say that the molecule rotates polarized light. An organic molecule that rotates polarized light has a carbon atom with four different molecules or side chains attached. There exist mirror image possibilities for this to occur. one form rotates light to the right (dextrorotary) and the mirror image rotates light to the left (levoratory).

In most biological molecules, where this occurs, one form is biologically active and the other is inactive. this is true for amino acids and for many pharmacological agents, as well as tocopherol.

Most likely it actually costs more...

If you are serious about health you absolutely must choose a phyto-form of any multivitamin (plant based). There are a number of phyto-multivitamins on the market that have all of them in a plant form so your body absorb es the maximum it can with little to no waste. It's more expensive, but worth it!
