Is there any way to speed up the healing of a black eye? And how long does it usually take?!

Question: my first shiner

Answers: my first shiner

I would say arnica. It is a homeopathic remedy found in most health food stores. Arnica is available in little pellets that you dissolve under your tongue as well as a topical ointment. The pellets are more effective than the ointment, if you are only going to use one but they can be used together. Each usually costs less than $10.

I used to shelter battered women in my home and they would often come to me beaten beyond recognition. With the arnica they were usually completely without visible swelling or bruising within 3 to 5 days.

Bruises develop when small blood vessels under the skin tear or rupture, most often from a bump or fall. Blood leaks into tissues under the skin and causes the black-and-blue color. As bruises (contusions) heal, usually within 2 to 3 weeks, they often turn colors, including purplish black, reddish blue, or yellowish green. Sometimes the area of the bruise spreads down the body in the direction of gravity.
Aren't ya' gonna tell us how ya' got that there shiner?
Anyway, once the eye bruises, there's not a whole lot you can do except control the swelling with cold compresses. Even makeup can't disguise it totally. Note: Avoid taking aspirin for pain relief, take acetaminophen instead. Aspirin is an anticoagulant, meaning the blood won't clot as well. Too, don't blow your nose. If it was a severe blow that caused your black eye (something more than just bumping into a door), blowing your nose could cause your face to blow up like a balloon. Have you been checked out by a doctor? Sometimes the injury fractures the bone of the eye socket, and blowing your nose can force air out of your sinus adjacent to the socket. The air gets injected under your skin and makes the eyelids swell even more. It also can increase the chance of infection.

Arnica is a good way to help bruising... otherwise, you could try any of a number of things that help promote circulation like L-Arginine, L-Citruline, Butcher's Broom, or several other natural products.
Either way, it'll take a good couple days at least to fully heal it (depending on the damage and how well your body responds to any of those ingredients). Good luck!

I'm not sure if it works with a black eye, but whenever i get a red eye or it itches, i get hot hot hot water and put green teabag in it. I stick my eye directly on top of the cup and the steam does the job.

Warm, not hot, moist compresses can help a little, but yeah, couple o' three weeks.

I also would like to know how y'got that them there shiner.

"Walking into a door" is taken, but "you should see the other guy" is always valid.

Hope you feel better.

Zinc Vitamin E and C all combined until it clears up.

a slab of tofu should do.

Arnica taken internally and used in a stick form will help

There's a cosmetic surgeon in our town who prescribes bromelain for all his facial surgeries. This speeds up the healing. A bruise and surgery have the same effect regarding bruising..

It digests the fibrin, an inflammatory protein, that is released with any trauma. You want to get rid of that.

I would take take 5 tablets 3X a day, each time on an empty stomach.

Yes, as someone else mentioned, arnica is another excellent solution. If you do both it might heal even faster.

The best to you.

Arnica rub. This summer I had a bike wreck and landed on my cheek. I'll be dammed if it didn't blacken my eye then the blood drained down my cheek and crawled under my chin. In just a few days of using the arnica faithfully and bruising faded. Good Luck.
