Is taking a laxative the same as getting a colon cleanse?!
Question: No! Laxatives use varied ways to stimulate your bowels into moving the "material" down and out of your body. Some do this by causing the bowel to contract (cramp) in order to move it down. Others (marketed as "cramp-free") bring more water from your body into your bowels to soften the stool and make it easier to pass.
Over-taking laxatives can have detrimental effects on your body, and it is possible for the body to become dependent on them, so that you cannot move your bowels without having the chemical stimulation.
Increasing your fiber intake (lots of whole grains, or even powders such as Metamucil) is the safest way to "cleanse" yourself out.
Having a colon cleansing -- oh there is no nice way to put it. Here, I will direct you to a website which describes the process: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/what-is-c...
