OK Neti Pot Fans........................!

Question: I've been told that saline is not the only thing you can run through your Neti Pot. I've heard you can run a zinc solution (for cold prevention)..... what else do you run through your Neti Pot? Let's hear it... I'm curious! Does anyone have any special recipes? If you make a suggestion, please be prepared to explain how to make, or where to buy.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

This is what I have been doing for the past four years with great results. Using 1 pint of water, warmed to body temperature (test on the back of your wrist), I dissolve one rounded teaspoon of xylitol, 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt (or sea salt or himalayan salt with no additives) and one pinch of baking soda. My neti pot holds 1 cup, so this amount will allow for a one flush through each nostril. I do this flush at the FIRST sign of a scratchy nose or throat. And repeat once a day, for two or three days. As a result, I have not had one cold or flu during this whole time. You can buy xylitol at any health food store (ditto the salt), just make sure the xylitol is not mixed with anything like stevia. Any baking soda will do (it buffers the solution, and reduces any stinging). While pouring the solution in one nostril and out the other, (while hanging my head over a sink) I will also sniff it in, and spit out through the mouth. This brings the solution deeper into the nasal cavities. As usual, after doing this through both nostrils, I bend over and hang my head down as far as possible to drain the sinuses. I know some folks do this everyday, I just am not that disciplined, but it sure works. Xylitol, because of its five-ring carbon structure, inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungi and viruses (they happily eat it, but can not process it, and so, essentially, starve to death). Using more xylitol than I just recommended, can sting a bit. There are some companies that sell xylitol nasal spray, but I've found the neti pot system really gets the fluid in much deeper. Happy Neti-ing!

Neti Pots are disgusting.
You can make tea with them! lol

Neti Pot, nasal sprays and antibiotics only give you a bit of short term relief and nasal sprays can actually damage your sinuses.

Taking 6 high strength odourless 3,000 mg garlic oil capsules every day will help your sinus problems. Garlic will boost your immune system and is both an antibacterial agent and an antimicrobial agent.

Mucus generating foods such as dairy products and red meat can be replaced with soy milk and white meat.

Apple cider vinegar also helps a bit.
