Family physicians absolutely should be trained to know about the effectiveness of complementary medicine. The problem is, that the vast majority are not. There is very little training, if any, during their schooling. This is changing. Most of what we learn in medical school about treating patients is wrong, or changed, within a few years of practice. Many physicians are tainted with a bias that assumes that anything that is not what they do is not effective. This is more arrogance than evidence, even though we tend to spout "evidence based" as a catch phrase to defend our ourtright rejection. Chiropractic medicine, traditional chinese medicine and other techniques are extremely effective when used at the right time (as is allopathic medicine). It is in the best interest of the patient that we learn when, and how, to refer to the appropriate clinician to best serve the needs of the patient.

It should be up to the individual physician...they shouldn't be forced to practice a modality they don't believe in or aren't comfortable with. There are already many physicians who practice, or at least support alternative medicine as a complement to mainstream medicine.

Where I live, the largest and most progressive hospitals in the area (even university hospitals) are expanding to accomodate mind/body medicine...which has, in many cases been proven very effective. Even the National Cancer Institute has 'opened its arms" to the prospect of alternative medicine in cancer treatment.

I deffinately think that doctors should learn how to cure things from a natural way before they learn how to cure with modern medicine. I think that doctors just throw medicine at people. My cousin has a history of of drug abuse and just got arrested not to long ago and doctor gave her this hardcore anxiety relaxer. She is only 18!

The "training" for many alternative forms of medicine are as arduous and lengthy (homeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, etc) as the regular medical course so it is not feasible for any healer to be well-versed in all of them.

All physicians should be "trained" to respect the work and study of other health professionals. Arrogance is unfortunately common among medical professionals, especially when their treatments do not benefit their patients and they imply that other modalities of treatment are not worthy of consideration.

They definitely should be taught that when you take statin drugs you need to take co Q10 because it depletes your body's natural ability to produce it and then you die.

Also many cancer patients are not told to take certain vitamins and minerals to help the side effects caused by radiation and chemo

B12 shots are needed for alzheimers patients which most places do give but they should be optimized with other things for memory such as gingko and phosphatidyserine.

yes they should be trained in compl & alt medicine (also known as integrative medicine). why? hmmm

natural vs chemical pharmacueticals?

what do we really want here? to take drugs or be healthy? the doctors should be trained to give the patient the opportunity to make an educated decision on the path they want for their own health... mind, body, spirit...

in the usa the fda , the pramacy will not
let then use nautral stuff , the legal drug companys contorl the doctors
they are only train in perscripiton medicine

NOT

there is no such thing as "alternative medicine" There is only medicine that has been scientifically proven efficacious and safe, and that which hasn't.

Medical doctors who use so called Alternative medicine (S.C.A.M.) are deluding themselves.
It's just the placebo effect.

Training for a minimum period of 5 1/2 years (BHMS) is absolutely necessary for becoming qualified to practice Homoeopathy in India as it gives a complete understanding not only about the structure and functioning of the human body but also a thorough understanding of the homeopathic philosophy and its practical utilization while treating diseased persons.

CHEATER!!!! hosa members are supposed to find information by their own damn self!!
