-Rest your voice.
-Drink at least 8 glasses of fluids a day. Warm drinks with honey and lemon are particularly soothing.
-Gargle with a salt solution. Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of water, gargle for 20-30 seconds and spit it out.

I usually gargle with a little salt and vinegar mixed into a glass of warm water.
Takes the scratchiness away.

It's been awhile since I have had a nasty throat like that. I have contemplated what I could possibly shove in my throat to give it a good scratch!

You want to use smooth things. Anything that is demulcent is good like Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice), Chondrus crispus (Irish Moss). A demulcent will soothe the irritated mucosa by providing a protective layer over the irritated tissue. If you have catarrh, you can use an anticatarrhal to reduce the amount of mucus made (Sambucus nigra, Verbascum thapsus) or an expectorant to move the mucus out of your lungs and throat (Inula helenium).

try this remedy.
