Without going into too much detail, there is an excellent book called Potatoes Not Prozac that explains the chemical reactions in your body to food and how to use potato to cause the reaction you're looking for for minor depression. I also like the exercises in Energy Medicine by Donna Eden about depression and other emotional/mental issues. And find a practitioner that utilizes some kind of energy manipulation. Reiki, Healing Touch Therapy, Quantum Touch.... There are many out there. Pick one and find a practitioner to get your energies running properly. It makes a big difference.
One more thing, take 5 minutes and put one hand across your forehead, this covers neurovascular points and the other hand goes to the back of your head and cups the very bottom to create a polarity between your hands and bring the blood to the front of your brain. Make sure your breathe deeply and try to relax while you do it. Don't skimp on time though, AT LEAST 3 minutes, no less.

Yes definately! Counselling.

I just had a miscarriage in Dec and didn't cope and ended up with a mild depression. I refused to take antidepressants, went to counselling and I feel back to my old self. 100% happy again! They just put you back on the track of thinking positively!

I say counselling because I believe you should try and deal with the problem so it doesn't come back later in life worse.

I wish you the best of luck

For me, full spectrum lighting has really, really helped. You can buy the bulbs at most stores. Good luck to you!

Also, I take Valerian root capsules before bed and it seems to take the edge off.

Have you tried exercise. A good walk or a swim could lift your spirits.

I personally use an herb alternative found on the web called amoryn, st johns wort is good for some, what you want to do for those of us perfectionistic types is keep a happiness journal and also exercises in nature whereby you take things slow and actually say to yourself I hear and actually listen to your surroundings and write down each day 7 things that you are grateful for and 7 things that make you happy and continue doing those things, avoid negative television programming and feed yourself on positive thoughts, avoid politics, lol.

B-12, Choline, St. John's Wort, and Running! (or jumping on a trampoline. Rhythmic up and down motion is mood elevating.)
