My brother went to the CHIROPRACTOR with a stomach problem that he had for years and his MD says never go...?!

Question: He had stomach pain for years and then he had an adjustment of his spine and ever since then he has had no pain. His MD was treating him and it was not working. When my brother told the MD he had no more problem and had seen the chiropractor. The MD got really mad and said that the chiropractor was a quack and did not really help him. The MD also said that if my brother ever saw a chiropractor again he would not be may brother's doctor any more. Is this fair??? And why would the MD say this if the chiropractic worked?

Not only are adjustments helpful for countless ailments and injuries, a chiropractor will have training in nutrition, which is not part of the required curriculum in medical school. Chiropractors treat the whole person, not just the symptoms.

Your brother's MD is a bully. He should definitely change docs.
MDs have been lobbying against Chiros for decades, along with their best buddies, the pharmaceutical and insurance industries.

There is a lot of tension between the medical and chiropractic community. If your brother's doctor isn't willing to have an open mind about things than maybe it would be a good idea for him to find a new MD.

That doctor is very unprofessional and has an ego problem. If your brother really wants him as his doctor, he just shouldn't tell him if he sees the chiropractor. I would find a new doctor.

No, it's not fair for his doctor to make a demand like that. Yes, there is a lot of conflict between natural medicine doctors (eg. Chiropractors) and "regular MDs"... but his doctor was acting rather childish if he was saying he wouldn't be his doctor if your brother saw a Chiropractor again. Heck, if my doctor ever said that, I would say "Okay, then I'll look for a new doctor".... professionals shouldn't act like that.

Ultimately, many doctors aren't trained in much of any detail about natural medicines and oftentimes they are told or implied to that they are witchcraft, placebo, or pointless/bad in some other way. There are many theories about why that is or where it came from, but the fact remains that the misinformation is out there. It's always unfortunate when a doctor is so closed-minded that they won't even look at a practice that's working for people... hopefully your brother can find a good MD that is more open-minded.
Actually, asking his Chiropractor might be a good way to find an MD that's open-minded or at least willing to accept Chiropractic.

As your brother can attest to, Chiropractic works perfectly fine and he is experiencing the benefits of it.

Medical doctors are people too:)
It's obvious the MD felt a bit threatened that his 'treatment' didn't work. However, even though the D.C. may have helped, there's a more in-depth way to solve this issue.
Take a good probiotic at least twice daily! Add in plenty of green and yellow veggies, and, also take Metamucil caps or the powdered form in lots of purified water. It sounds as though you have Candida and parasites as they both love each other. Yuck! So, add in a well-known olive leaf extract...being careful to take the best one as possible.
Metamucil (build up slowly) works best on a stomach that has gone at least 2 hours or longer without having any food (empty as possible).
A lot of people with IBS claim this works!

I am with you. I believe that alternative medicine really fills a need. I had a rotator cuff injury for years. After retirement, I noticed my shoulder freezing up. The doctors (even specialists) I complained to never helped. My chiropractor x ray'd my spine (from the front view). I saw the scoliosis curve in my spine, a problem which I never knew I had. Also he adjusted and treated my shoulder and now I can use my arm again.

The doctors aren't trained to look at everything. They are not gods or goddesses who can find and fix everything. Any doctor who does not allow other kinds of trained practitioners to help their patients is terribly misguided.

My chiropractor is well-trained and talented. I trust him to tell me when it's time to see the doctor (and he has referred me).

Your brother needs to find a new M.D. and keep going to the chiropractor when he needs to. I have personal experience and chiropractic has helped me out of a lot of pain. Thank God my doctor believes too and also in homeopathic and herbal medicine. Sometimes he laughs, but he uses them too!

I understand where you are coming from. You are looking for opinions from people as to the validity of your brother's find in health and knowledge versus an MD who's livelihood is threatened.

I am very privileged to live where I do. It is the most progressive state in integrative medicine where chiropractors and MD's work in unison for physical therapies, sports injuries, recoveries and child birthing.

It is the norm for chiropractors and medical doctors to work together, because they end up with healthier patients and better moral.

Remember this folks. Just as an attorney works for you, a doctor works for you... Not the other way around.

I've fired my doctor for talking down to me and never regretted it, because I have the power over my health and well being, not someone who is trained in "masking symptoms."

I have two excellent family doctors and friends who are MD's who completely understand that the study of the autonomic nervous system (brain and spinal column) that send messages to your entire body on what to do whether voluntary or involuntary can affect health if there is a pinched nerve.

That pinched nerve can affect organs and their functions.

Chiropractors are here to stay and its a quite lucrative career as doctoring isn't what it used to be and there are chiropractors that are catching up or making even more than MD's.

I can see how that's making some people mad who went to medical school for the money and not to save the world.

Chiroquacktors did not go to medical school and are not doctors. There are almost no regulations - I could set up as a chiroquacktor tomorrow.

Unlike real medicine, chiroquacktic treatments are not evidence-based or backed up by clinical trials.

Your brother should have been honest with his medical doctor - a real doctor needs to know which treatments his patients are undergoing.
