Would you see an alternative healthcare practitioner if your doctor wasn't listening to you about your health?!

Question: Some people are considering holistic practitioners because they don't feel that their conventional doctors listen to them. I was just wondering what you all think.

I always treat my own ailments unless I'm very sick. Doctors don't have the time or intelligence to know how to treat people properly. Most ailments are chronic and can be easily treated with herbal medicine. My doctor did nothing for my pms, chronic fatigue, depression or bad back, but I've successfully treated them by myself and with the help of a chiropractor for the back problem.

The medical profession is also extremely narrow minded.

I kept shopping for a doctor until I found one that did listen to me. Just because someone is a holistic practitioner doesn't mean they can listen any better, or do. They are all human beings and they all have their faults and foibles.

yes of course your health is very important and to stay healthy

yes. i find that medical doctors don't spend a lot of time (10 minutes at the most) with their patients. i only go when i'm sick and need meds, otherwise, i see a chiropractor and acupuncturist.

first do internet research. You are in charge of your health ultimately, and unfortunately.. You have to be proactive when it comes to your health.
I would suggest you go to another doctor, and when you go in be prepared to tell him quickly and precisely what is going on. If you ramble on and your not direct with the situation you lose credibility.
unfortunately it's true. Doctors (most) are out to make money so they can't sit and chat. Doesn't mean they don't care, but it just means that their time is valuable.
So go in prepared, don't go in expecting a chit chat.

Doctors are trained to treat the symptoms, not so much the cause of them. Keeping yourself healthy is your best defense, however if you are having symptoms, you should definitely find someone who will listen. I prefer to refer to my Merc manual, which allows you to look up symptoms, and will tell you any tests that are needed, medications recommended, etc. It gives you insight as to what your doctor should be doing for you.
